HURON, CA, JULY 11
Don. Carver won both Qver the Hill Gang
NOVice motos to score the overall win at
round three of the Big Guy Promotions
Summer Motocross Series at Huron Cycle
Park.
SLO City Cycles-sponsored Carver holeshot
into the first moto lead with Kurt Kruse and
Danny Lowers close behind. Carver was soon
well out of reach of the others. Jim Terry
passed Low~rs for the third spot, where he
stayed for a while before fading. Kruse crossed
the finish line in second behind Carver.
Terry holeshot moto two, but was soon
passed by Carver in a whoop section. Mike
Hernandez and Kruse followed closely.
Nursing a recent shoulder injury, Terry again
started to drop back while Kruse once again
moved himself into second place. Hernandez
took over third, and Chuck Holmes moved
into fourth after a mediocre start. The riders
maintained these positions to the checkered
flag, giving Carver the overall victory and
Kruse second.
OTHG Beginner Eric Brandmeyer took
home the gold in his class after battling with
second-place finisher Tim Davis. Davis
holeshot moto one, with Brandmeyer back in
the pack, and Brett Alcala in second. Brandmeyer was on the move and was soon on Davis'
rear fender. On the third-lap Brandmeyer and
Corwin Shropshire passed Davis, who had
trouble in the_whoops. Brandmeyer scored the
moto win.
Moto -two saw Davis again claim the
holeshot, but this time Brandmeyer was even
further behind, running near the back of the
pack. He sliced his way through the pack,
picking off one rider per lap and moving into
second by the end of the moto. Brandmeyer's
1-2 score gave him' the overall, while Davis
had to settle for second.
In the OTHG Expert class Roy Knight
fended off Glen Wilkins and Bob Clark in
a three-way battle for the overall. Wilkins
holeshot the first moto, with Knight glued
to his fender. Knight got by Wilkins on the
second lap and then got a breather when
Wilkins went down. Clark caught and passed
Knight on the last lap to win the mom, while
Knight finished second.
_
Wilkins again took the holeshot in moto
two, followed by Knight and Lowers. But
Wilkins would not be denied this time and
pulled away from the' pack while Knight was
left to -fend off Clark and Lowers. Lowers was
finally able to secure third when Clark stalled
while trying to get around Knight. Knight's
2-2 finishes gave him the overall with Wilkins
earning second.
