~ DIRTTRACK AMA Amateur/Youth Dirt Track National Championships ~ The Hayden family won a combined total of nine championships in the unique event. Schnabel (16) won the 125cc Schoolboy TT Championship over Jason Wilke (073). field around on lap one. Unfortunately, rain began to fall and.when the two front-runners fell in turn four the race was red-flagged. The race was then delayed until the track dried and the restart took place without Tyer, who was still being attended to in the ambulance. On the restart, Jess Robinson grabbed the holeshot and pulled a big 'lead over Christian Vernon and Andy Pelinsky. Edmonds was on the move and he pssed Pelinsky to take over third on lap three. The Vernon-Edmonds battle carried them up to Robinson's rear wheel, but time ran out after Edmonds got by Vernon to take second on the last lap.l While Robinson celebrated in winner's circle, Tyler had the following to think about:. by not being able to make the restart he wasn't credited with last place; which would have given him the overall title. John Winsett won the class title even though he also didn't start, as he was on his way to the hospital after his 85cc Modified race crash. CN Results 16 J.R.' Schnabel easily won the 125 Modified TT and duplicated Vernon's results of two seconds and a first. Nicky Hayden's distant second left him three points short of Schnabel for the overall honors. Kevin Miller got by Jason Wilke on the last lap for third. The 65cc DTX main showcased Nick Godfrey's TT talel!ts as he pa~sed Roger Lee Hayden for the lead on lap three. Hayden was cruising in a solid second until be slipped down in the chicane. He quickly remounted, but lost two positions to Jeremy Thompson and Kurt Hawk. J.R. Schnabel continued to do well, this time scoring the win in the 125cc DTX TT. This time Andy Miller pushed him all the way, but couldn't find a way around. Jason Wilke held third all the way, holding off a challenge by Paul Lynch on the last lap. The 65cc Modified main was redflagged when Timmy Huss fell while challengipg Brody Miller for the lead. Miller led the complete restart but was quickly challenged and then passed by Nick Godfrey. Miller kept pressuring Godfrey until the last lap when he fell. He was up and going, but finished a disappointing fifth. Miller's misfortune moved Justin Filson into second and Roger Lee Hayden into. third. Hayden and Huss were fighting for the overall class title. Hayden's third gave him that honor by two points. The 125cc Schoolboy class came to the line for the last time and once again J.R. Schnabel came out on top. Jason Wilke kept him honest in second. Nicky Hayden and Paul Lynch battled over third until lap five when Lynch got by. Hayden's fourth place finish was still good enough to take the overall class title by two points over Schnabel. Brandon Rose led the 85cc DTX (711) class at the start, but on lap two the race was red-flagged due to Nicho- las James falling in turn one while running fourth. Tom Skethway led lap one of the restart, but Rose and Justin Filson quickly moved by with Filson getting the crossed flags and then the checkered flag first. Rose stayed close in second and finished there which was enough to give him the overall win. Jeremy Thompson slipped by Skethway for third. The 85cc Modified (12-15) class produced a a close race, but one that ended in controversy. John Winsett Jr. jumped out front at the flash of green while behind him Mike Farro, Jenny Hayden and Josh Knott were occupied with each other, battling over second. Knott broke free and stormed by Winsett· on lap three. But as lap five started, Knott slowed entering turn one, looking for a way around a rider he was about to lap, and Winsett couldn't stop and slammed into Knott. :ijoth riders went down, but Knott was up quickly and running in third as the new leader, Jenny Hayden, received the white flag. When it became apparent .that Winsett wasn't going to get up, the red flag came out. The officials decided to call the race complete with scoring reverting back to lap four with both Winsett and Knott eliminated because their accident had brought out the red flag. Mike Farro was awarded the win over Hayden and Nick Gustin. Winsett went to the hospital with arm and shoulder injuries. The 85cc Modified (7-11) race saw Tom Skethway out front at the start and he stayed there to take the win. Roger Lee Hayden battled Brandon Rose for second until the last lap when. ,Rose bobbled and not only lost his chance to finish second but third as well as Jeremy Thompson slipped by him to take the show position.
