ROUND 16 / APRIL 30, 2022 EMPOWER FIELD AT MILE HIGH / DENVER, COLORADO P78 SUPERCROSS I MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES definitely helps for the future. Things happen for everyone but to be the first KTM rider right now, I don't want to say is a good thing, but for me it is." In Denver Tomac played it safe, only needing to finish 14th ment, was really a test for me to see if it would help me want to keep racing," Musquin said. "It definitely did, and I changed a lot, but to be honest I didn't know if it would work. I'm putting in good results right now and that so close and it's honestly one of those things I want to accomplish for a goal for myself this year but again it's one of those things where you have to take what's given to you. There's been plenty of times in my career where I could've won the race but threw it away, but with things this year it's just about being consistent." Marvin Musquin again locked down another podium for the second week in a row. He found himself trailing Tomac and Justin Barcia, all fighting for the final spot on the box. Barcia later threw it away in the sand section and handed the position to Musquin. From there, the number-25 caught Tomac who, in title defense mode, happily gave up the position. His sixth podium this season sees him knocking on the door for third place in overall points. "I kept working on making my way forward, but it was a tough track to make passes on and we ended up ninth." WELCOME TO THE CLUB Eli Tomac joins some elite company now that he is a multi-time Super- cross Champion. He joins two-time champs James Stewart, Chad Reed, Jeff Ward and Rick Johnson. He also gave Yamaha its first 450SX title since James Stewart in 2009. HIGH & DRY The Denver track was probably the driest the racers has seen all year. The area experienced strong winds on Friday, so strong, in fact, that Friday's free practice was called off and teams had to dismantle their awnings so they wouldn't blow away. Winds were tamer on race day, but the track could not hold moisture, which resulted in slick and even dusty conditions by the main events. The nearly 6000-foot elevation of the Denver track usu- ally has an adverse effect on the both bike and rider, since there is less air to breath for both. Jason Anderson is notorious for suffer- ing in the high altitude, but he says he's been training at home in New Mexico, where the elevation is nearly the same as Denver's. An- derson seemed to get through the weekend without any issues. Briefly... Chase Sexton (23) was the early leader in the main but went down, nearly collecting Anderson and Tomac in the process.
