or better to clinch the title (his worst finish so far was seventh in Foxborough). Tomac started up front and found himself in the lead early on. Once Anderson made his way around, the red- plate holder slowly began letting others by and cruised his way to a fifth-place finish. The Denver fans were electric for their home- state favorite and cheered on the number-three as he went on to become number-one. Tomac did drop some shocking news on the podium during his championship presentation, revealing he suf- fered a knee injury during a heat race in Atlanta two rounds earlier. "I was more freaked out in Atlan- ta and in Boston because my knee was jacked," he said. "It still is not great. So I was pretty stressed out right there. I haven't really been rid- ing and I didn't ride this last week at all. So today wasn't too stressful but those last two I had more wor- ries on my mind." 250SX West Championship tensions were another big topic in the 250SX West division, as Christian Craig was in a position to clinch the title in Denver. He needed to beat rival Hunter Lawrence to secure the first title of his career, or it would be pushed one week further to the series finale in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lawrence thrived under the pressure and led every lap of the 250SX West main event, taking his fourth win in the last five rounds. The older of the two Lawrence brothers understood his assign- ment and looked to take this title fight down to the final round. He grabbed the holeshot and made it tough for Craig to make a pass. After Craig fumbled, it was smooth sailing for Lawrence who bagged his third win in a row and cuts the points gap to only 18. "I think as far as he's [Craig] concerned, he's got a pretty safe race," Lawrence said of the upcoming final round. "I'm just going out there to win and hope- fully make it five wins this sea- son. That's all I can do really. The chance of him getting less than 19 points is pretty unlikely, so I'm just going to focus on myself." Michael Mosiman was the ROUND 16 / APRIL 30, 2022 EMPOWER FIELD AT MILE HIGH / DENVER, COLORADO P80 SUPERCROSS I MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES Anderson's third win in a row was his sixth of the season, which is more wins than his 2018 championship season.
