In 1991, Bradshaw 'and Dubach contested the 500cc National Championship Series aboard heavily-modified WR500s. According to Yamaha, the idea was Bradshaw's. He approached the decision makers at Yamaha and said, "The WR isn't even a motocross bike, why race it? The magazines are slamming the YZI25 for being slow, but I've ridden Emig's and it's a rocket. I'll win a few races on one and show everyone how slow it is." Actually, Bradshaw won't have too much to prove now, since Emig scored his first-ever National win at the July 5 Red Bud 125cc National in Michigan. The July 19 Unadilla 250cc U.S. MX GP in New Berlin, New York will see Damon Bradshaw debut the 1993 Yamaha YZ250, which is scheduled to arrive at Yamaha dealerships in late September. "He's over there (in Europe) testing road race bikes, but his shoulder is still a little too sore for the pounding of motocross," said Race Team Manager Dave Arnold. "Right now, the plan is for him to race in the L.A. Supercross next week, and then do all the 500cc Nationals." Team North County Yamaha's Tyson Vohland competed at the Red Bud National MX while wearing a pair of suspenders underneath his chest protector.
