YZ250
amaha unveiled .its 1993 motocrossers at a press conference at
their U.S. headqu,!-rters in
Cypress, California, on Thursday, July
2. Heading the line is the YZ250, which
features many updates carried out with
substantial input from Yamaha factory
rider Damon Bradshaw.
The most obvious change is the new
bodywork. To quell complaints of
bulging side panels and riders' boots
hanging up on the bike, Yamaha has
gone with a smoother look. The side
panels blend into the tank and the rear
fender, and the bike is narrower in the
midsection. Also, the new (and slightly
smaller capacity) 2.0-gallon fuel tank
features a recess for the seat so that it
will not snag on the rider's legs as he
moves around on the bike. The rear
fender features a straighter bend, and
a duct that is designed to channel air
under the rear of the seat to the airbox.
The front number plate and side
panels are larger.
As anticipated, the new Yamahas
have purple seats and matching graphics, copying the lO,ok of the factory
team's '92 bikes.

While the frame geometry has
remained unchanged, the new 250
sports a removable subframe. Last
year, only the left-side frame member
came off. Gusseting has been added
throughout, along with larger diameter tubing, resulting in a claimed 30%
increase in rigidity. Also new is a lowboy style pipe with a more angled and
longer silencer. This was done in
