ically edged up to eighth in hour two, sixth in hour three, and third in the fourth hour where it would remain for the entire race. Riders Reuhl and Klassen, supported by Ferodo, D.I.D, Silkolene, and NGK, were very quick to point out that the tremendous amount of track time WERA permitted on Friday and a loaning of spare parts from Team Suzuki permitted such a fine showing. Reuhl said they utilized the time to sort out different gearing combinations and various suspension adjustments. He added that the bike would really drag when loaded with a full tank of fuel. The team used the setups so well that it only used one set of Dunlop slicks and literally ran the machine dry of fuel as it crossed the finish line for the checkers. Force Racing - supported by Sheldon Gantt, Yamaha of Warren, RK, 7-UP, Maier, Bieffe, Dunlop, EBC, and NGK - remains at the top of the Heavyweight Production heap and also finished fourth overall. "We planned on conserving our brakes and tires," Ron Crum said. "At the second red flag we changed the pads and tires. We think we had a defective pad(s) because they wore out after only two hours and 20 minutes." The pads which did glaze cost them roughly 20 seconds. To show how tight the action was in the class, that slight mistake was enough for Motion Systems Racing to overtake them and very briefly move into the class lead before Force could reel them in. Nicholson's Ann Arbor won the Mediumweight Production class on a bone stock Honda CBR600F. Riders Dave Bloom and Steve Kok are two local riders who have been plying their skills for years on the asphalt. Bloom has been racing since 1964, Kok since 1986. Both have logged hundreds of hours on the Grattan track and Bloom clearly had the bike set up for zero effort. "I set it to stay flat going through the corners so we would not get tired or have to use a lot of body english to steer the motorcycle," Bloom said. Coming into this round the pecking order of the standings was: Team Suzuki, Force Racing, Mota Sport Racing, Team SD/Pearls and Royale Racing in the top five positions. .Suzuki did not finish. Force won again. Mota Sport made the long trek from the West Coast, did well for several hours, and even enjoyed the roller coaster track, but was forced to retire . after several hours. Peter Christensen came into the pits with what he described as a sound like a rod going bad; Mota Sport was only a few laps off Suzuki's pace at the time. Team SD/Pearls currently leads the Mediumweight ranks, but it could not get on the right track this weekend as the team ran as high as second in class in the third hour only to see it go down the drain when a cam chain and follower broke ending their race.
