The Unadilla track is 1.1 miles long and is one of the few genuine all-natural terrain tracks in the U.s. Race Schedule (times may vary) at least another year in Europe before heading stateside. Don't look for former 125 and 250cc World Champion Jean-Michel Bayle, either. The Frenchman competed in and won the opening round of the 500cc GP Series in San Bernardino, California, last April. Since the rules state that a rider can't compete in more than one class in GP competition in the same year, Bayle won't be on this year's Unadilla entry list. Other European riders to keep an eye on are Finland's Pekka Vehkonen, Sweden's Peter Johansson, Belgium's Marnique Bervoets and Holland's Gert Jan van Doom. Many top American riders who did not compete at Glen Helen will be tearing up the hilly Unadilla course, as well, including the very popular and wild "Guy" of motocross, Suzuki's Guy Cooper of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Mike laRocco, the quiet but fast, Team Kawasaki rider from South Bend, Indiana. Both riders will compete in the 125cc Support race. LaRocco is currently leading the AMA National Saturday, July 18 Registration and Tech Inspection Riders Meeting 250cc Free practice Group A 250cc Free practice Group B 125cc Practice 250cc Free practice Group A 250cc Free practice Group B 250cc Qualifying practice Group A 250cc Qualifying practice Group B 125cc Practice Sunday, July 19 250cc Free practice 250cc Free practice 125cc Practice 250cc Moto one (25 minutes plus 2 laps) 125cc Moto one (30 minutes plus 2 laps) 250cc Moto two 125cc Moto two 250cc Moto three Award ceremonies 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. .11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. .12:00 Noon to 12:50 p.m. 12:55 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. .1:30 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. 2:20 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 3:20 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. .10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. .11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon .1:00 p.m. .1 :30 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. 2:45 p.m. 3:15 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. 4:30 p.m. 5:15 p.m. Tickets Full weekend $30 (rain or shine) Sunday only (no sellouts) $26 Children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult Free Ticket information 607/965-8784 Parking Free No camping Additional information 800/233-8778, or 315/866-1500 Parker and'last year's winner Stanton. Championship 125cc MX Series point standings and looks to be headed to another title. Although any of the top GP regulars can pull off the win at Unadilla this year, they will first have to deal with American's Jeff Stanton and Damon Bradshaw. But as any motocrosser will tell you, anything can happen and, most likely, will. Just ask former multi-time National and Supercross Champion Bob Hannah, who once was leading.the U.S. 250cc GP at Unadilla but ran out of gas. Two years later, the same thing happened to Supercross and 125ee National MX Champion Johnny O'Mara on the last lap and Hannah ended up winning that year. Or Brian Myerscough, who once was also leading the U.S. 250cc GP and had victory in sight before the rugged Unadilla track got the best of him, and he physically ran out of steam. That's Unadilla for ya. Enjoy! m
