By Paul Carruthers Photo by Henny Ray Abrams ELKHART LAKE, WI, JUNE 28 hat do Pascal Picotte and the rest of the SuperTwins class have in common? Very little. Adding further proof that they really don't belong here, Picotte and his Fast By Ferracci Ducati blasted away to a 39.646-second victory after only nine laps and 36-miles of -racing. The French Canadian bashed Gia Ca Moto's Jimmy Adamo, who handed a similar beating to third-place finisher Robert Meister on his one-week-old Raymond Roche replica Ducati. Fast By Ferracci's David Kieffer and Greg Kopp rounded out the top five finishers on their Ducatis. Picotte further extended his championship lead after scoring his sixth win in seven starts. He now leads Adamo, 127111. Stephen Mathews managed to hold on to third in the standings, despite not finishing at Road America. The Georgian's Ducati tossed its chain when he dropped the dutch at the start of the race. Yes, the only thing pretty about this one was Picotte's wheelies. Somewhaf frustrated by his eighth place finish in the Superbike National, Picotte took out his anger on the SuperTwins field. He stormed off at the start, leading by an astounding 7.28 seconds after only one lap. From there he pulled away at a three-second-a-lap clip, until finishing the race 39.71 seconds dear of Adamo. Adamo led the rest of the dull parade of thundering twins, with Meister next, followed a straightaway behind by Kieffer. "I'm happy to be here again with you guys in the winner's circle," Picotte said. "1 think I have the fastest motors out here. I'm disappointed with my result in the superbike race. The team is working hard and I'm going to be ready to win my first AMA Superbike National at Mid...Qhio. See you in August." "I'm trying," Adamo said. "Pascal got a great start and I got a terrible start. I couldn't even see him on the first lap." , Meister, who is sponsored by American Flyers, took delivery of his $35,000 Roche-replica Ducati only a week before the race. "I'm real excited," he said. "1 had a blast. American Flyers has made it all come true. I couldn't ask for more. It was great racing'in front of the home fans. I was crying in my helmet out there on the last lap." CN W Results . Pascal Picotte wheelied his way to the win in the SuperTwins class. AMA Harley-Oa\'idson Twin Sports Series: Round 7 Six in arow for Zampach By Henny Ray Abrams III ELKHART LAKE, WI, JUNE 28 t was probably the perfect race because I had a race strategy and , everything went as planned," Milwaukee's own Scott Zampach said after winning his sixth Harley-Davidson Twin Sports race in a row on the Tilley's Harley-Davidson 883 Sportster, this time on his home track at Elkhart Lake. Zampach swapped the lead back and forth with Bartels' H-D's Nigel Gale, passing the Brit for good on the fourth lap before pulling away to win by 5.005 seconds. Gale finished second with Suburban Motors H-D's Richard Koehler third. Low Country H-D's Chuck Blackmon got the best of Harley-Davidson of Missouri's Andy Fenwick in a race-long battle for fourth. The six-lap, 24-mile race took Zampach 16 minutes, 17.135 seconds to complete at an average speed of 88.422 mph. With the exception of his Daytona disqualification, Zampach has had ~ perfect season, his 120 points leading the championship by 20, 130-110 over Gale, with two races to go. Blackmon is a distant third with 76. The holeshot went to Gale, jumping out in front of Zampach, Fenwick, Koehler, and H-D of jamestown's Shawn Higbee. _ On the second lap, Zampach teok the lead, Gale taking it back on the third before Zampach took it back for good on the fourth. By then the top three had split from the pack, leaving another trio to fight for fourth, with Ronald McGill a lonely seventh. Higbee dropped out on the fifth lap when his Sportster began to seize, locking the rear brake up, then running on one cylinder. Zampach was pulling away, Gale was in second, also putting ground on his pursuer Koehler, who was comfortably in front of Fenwick-Blackmon. "1 had a real good line for the carousel and back kink section," Zampach said. "1 knew exactly what was going on the whole time - who was where and what the situation was." Gale stretched his advantage in second with Koehler third, and "happy to be on the podium. I gave it all I could," the Hartland, Wisconsin, rider said. About seven seconds back Blackmon finished fourth, passing Fenwick on the CN last lap. Results H-D TWIN SPORTS FiNAL: 1. Scott Zampach; 2. Nigel.Gale; 3. Richard Koehler; 4. Chuck Blackmon; 5.
