-dn't know if he was right behind
e," Cornwell said, adding that he'd
sed the same front tire in practice and
ad started the race with 13 laps on
't thinking it would be better to have
scrubbed one on. "I should have put
fresh one on," he said afterwards.
"I was following Jon through the
ack. We passed Edwards and Kirk,"
ripodi began. "He was in second,
ooking back at me and he picked up
the pace a little bit. I don't know if
e was panicking. He'd actually pulled
way. I wanted to get into a good battle
ith him and learn from him."
Instead, Tripodi found himself in
second trying to run by himself and
inding that he wasn't riding as
nsistently as he wanted. "This race
track is so demanding, and it was so
Qt, that if you're not smooth you're
fighting it all the time," he said.
Kirk never really lost sight of
ripodi, but, was exhausted from
having run a 600cc SuperSport race
-ust prior to the 250cc Grand Prix race
and felt his energy waning toward the
end of the race.
"I was hurting before I got on it;"
he said. "I couldn't ride it as hard as
I wanted."
But he was never pressured from
behind, finishing about 10 seconds in
front of Edwards, he, too, fighting a.
nagging injury to the end.
"I wasn't going to take any chances," the IS-year-old Edwards said.
"We went out there to finish good and
get some points. Next weekend we'll
get them. Chris has won there (Road
America) the last two years in a row,
so we've got the setup right."
Fifth placed Danny Walker thought
Edwards' setup for Loudon was pretty
good.
"Oh my God," Walker responded
when asked if Edwards could pull him
of the turns. "I was looking for one
of those grappling hooks to be holding
me back. This thing was scary. It was
so scary I. was hanging on. I cooked
the rear."
But the pair finished well in front
of sixth, the placing going to Tommy
Lynch on the Del Amo Yamaha after
a poor start and a spirited dice with
a number of riders.
