behind Manneh, soon faded as the Swede took the handlebars in his chest and rode in discomfort to an eventual 11th. Bervoets then took up the chase after Manneh, but the Californian was equal to the challenge despite his injured wrist and they crossed the line 2-3, respectively, ahead of Herring, who finally ran out of physical steam after an early charge to fourth. Puzar and Moore were involved in an early battle for 16th, but the American was starting to feel the strain and could not resist his teammate as they moved through the pack. "I've been holding on too tightly with my left hand, and it blistered badly. I was happy to get eighth." Puzar, meanwhile, anxious not to lose too many points to Schmit, swept past Belgian Peter Iven for a top six placing entering the final lap. He could see Englishman Paul Malin ahead of him but that extra point was denied the Italian, who punched the air in an attempt to influence the judge's decision: but he was 20 yards past the line before he actually passed the Kawasaki of Malin's. Both Healey, his ankle getting ever worse, and Parker quit the moto mid race, while Qymond had already seen the fruitlessness of the chase after being one of the first-tum pile up victims. £N Results TIMED PRACTICE: L Peter Johansson (2 minutes, 22.71 seconds); 2.
