T
o play it safe or let it all hang
out? Isn't that what Shake-
speare said? Maybe he was
stuck in his own championship hunt
and debating whether to send it and
lock up the title early or to cruise
cautiously without the big risk fac-
tor. Both titles were up for grabs at
round 15 of the Monster Energy AMA
Supercross in Foxborough, Massa-
chusetts—Eli Tomac just needed to
beat his rejuvenated rival Jason An-
derson, while Jett Lawrence needed
a result better than RJ Hampshire.
This seemed like a safe bet given
the stats from this season, but things
don't always work out like that. When
the checkers flew it was two Kawa-
saki riders, Austin Forkner and Jason
Anderson, claiming their respective
main event wins. Anderson pushed
the 450SX title back at least another
week, Jett Lawrence clinched his
first Supercross championship one
round early.
450SX
Fans got what they came to see
in the 450SX main event as all the
key players started up front. KTM's
Cooper Webb grabbed the hole-
shot over Anderson, Tomac, Marvin
Musquin, Chase Sexton and the rest
of the gang. Webb showed flashes of
his champion-self and held the lead
as Tomac and Anderson swapped
spots. Anderson showed that he
wasn't quite ready to watch Tomac's
championship celebrations just
yet and put a decisive move on the
points leader early in the race. The
resulting stand-up caused Tomac to
stall the bike and ultimately set the
tone for the remainder of the race.
Anderson, on the other hand, made
