following Bautista said he missed their bikes by millimeters. The experienced Spaniard would regain composure—and the lead—from Lecuona to ease away to a clear win and an un- expectedly large championship lead of 18 points over Rea. Locatelli scored second as he passed Lecuona but no-one can overplay the significance of a podium finish for a two-rider rookie Honda squad after a winter of con- jecture as to how they would go. Fourth in race two was Alex Lowes, salvaging a weekend of disasters that were not his fault, with fourth place. Scott Redding put the tin hat on the weird happenings in race two by finishing fifth when Axel Bassani was pinged for exceeding track limits too often throughout the race. Redding had a best of 15th from Motorland in round one. Two rounds of the 12 down, and the next 10 look unmissable if this is the new normal in 2022. WorldSSP A red flag in WorldSSP race one was good timing for Domi- nique Aegerter (Ten Kate Yama- ha) and terrible timing for long- time leader and second place finisher, Glenn van Straalen (EAB Yamaha). Tom Booth-Amos (Kawasaki) and Martin Brenner (Yamaha) crashed out and that check-up and clear-up brought out a red flag that saw the race classified after 13 laps, plus one sector, making van Straalen second, not the winner of his home race. He always had Sunday, except his Sunday would not last long. Third place in race one went to one-time leader Nicolo Bulega (Aruba Ducati). Jules Cluzel was fourth, ahead of another Ducati rider, Federico Caricasulo (Al- thea Ducati). Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti) was on course for a top four until he fell, much to his own disgust. Race two, on Sunday and again in dry, cool weather, started with a hard pass on Ae- gerter from Oncu, and then two crashes at the first corner. Cluzel and van Straalen, were both out almost before the second 14-lap race had properly begun. No fairytale win for van Strallen but his pace is strong in 2022. Aegerter's drop in early posi- tions saw Caricasulo second and Baldassarri third. When Caricasulo fell the forward motion of Baldassarri took him to second by passing Aegerter and then the aggressive leader Oncu. Aegerter then went second, Bulega third but Oncu was still desperate to podium after two recent non-finishes. Aegerter finally took back-to- back wins at Ten Kate's home circuit, and three wins in 2022 so far. Behind him Baldassarri was a distant second, Oncu his cov- eted third and Bulega fourth. A strong Race Two for the Triumph Street Triple RS duo of Hannes Soomer and Stefano Manzi placed them fifth and sixth. With Niki Tuuli's MV Agusta F3 800 seventh, all five compet- ing manufacturers filled the top seven places. In the points, Aegerter has 95, Baldassarri 65 and Bulega 56.
