Hawkins Tops Cal Classic
T
he amateur racing season
is in full swing as racers
finished off the Cal Classic at
Fox Raceway in Pala, California,
April 15-17. Another staple in the
string of "spring nationals," the
Cal Classic played host to 50
divisions, and the standout racer
was Husqvarna's Talon Hawkins,
who showed why he is on the list
of up-and-comers. He swept all
three, 250cc, 450cc and Open
Pro Championships.
Hawkins, who rides as a facto-
ry Husqvarna-supported amateur,
claimed the win in 250cc Pro
by finishing first in both motos.
Brayden Lessler's 3-3 proved
consistent enough for second in
the class, while Noah Viney's 4-4
earned him third.
Again, Hawkins topped the
450 Pro division with a win in
moto one and a second in moto
two. Josiah Natzke grabbed the
second-moto victory but a fourth
in the first race only netted him
second overall. Brock Bennett's
2-4 scores were right there in
podium territory, and he earned
third on the day.
Hawkins, Viney and Bennett
again battled for the Open Pro
title. Another 1-1 performance
by Hawkins bested the rest and
allowed him to grab another title
on the weekend. Viney and Ben-
nett swapped moto results going
3-2 and 2-3, respectively. Viney
claimed second with Bennett third.
Landen Gordon grabbed the
overall win in Supermini 1 and later
finished second to Jeremy Fap-
pani in the Supermini 2 division.
Dayton Briggs and Julien Beau-
mer won the 250cc and 450cc
Intermediate classes. Beaumer
finished second to Briggs in the
250B overall but claimed the
450B title with 1-2 scores.
