it was like, I am disappointed in that. It just made it more dif- ficult in the races because the Yamaha has a lot of strengths, but they do not all shine through here in Aragon. I felt like I was getting out-accelerated, and I was never in a good spot to try and outbrake somebody to make a pass. There are not so many places where you can make a different type of pass. Here you have to outbrake somebody. It was a bit tricky but if we can get better qualifying, I know we can be right there with Locatelli at the very least." WorldSSP The new WorldSSP era, with much larger engine machines taking on the traditional 600cc four-cylinders, started with a bang, especially at the end of race one when eventual winner Lorenzo Baldassarri (Evan Bros Yamaha) and the closely follow- ing 2021 champion Dominique Aegerter, only just avoided a nasty crash. Baldassarri almost fell off the inside of his bike and Aegerter almost smacked into his dan- gling outside leg. The incident in general caused the 2021 champ to run wide. Baldassarri won, with Aegerter second and Can Oncu third on a Puccetti Kawasaki 600. The first "Next Gen" bike was the Aruba Ducati Supersport Ducati team in fifth. The top 800cc MV was sixth and the best Triumph 765 seventh—en- sure all five manufacturers were inside the top seven places at the first racing attempt. It was almost a 600cc podium whitewash on Sunday, too, but the fates had other plans. Race two was another duel between the top Yamaha riders, this time one Aegerter and his superior race craft won by just 0.030 seconds. A great fight again, as the close margin of vic- tory suggests. Oncu was on course for at least another third until his bike quit on him on the final lap with an electrical problem, stopping him trackside. That left the first place on a podium for a Next Generation bike in the new epoch Ducati of Bulega. Van Strallen was just behind in fourth, with Niki Tuuli now fifth on the best MV of the day and old stager Jules Cluzel sixth. Yari Montella (Kawasaki Puc- cetti Racing) was seventh, and, despite having to start from the back of the grid due to a tire pressure penalty, Manzi was eighth on the leading Triumph.
