Can-Am To Produce Electric
Motorcycles In 2024
B
ombardier Recreational
Products (BRP), owners of
Can-Am, have announced the
company will create a new line
of electric motorcycles for the
2024 model year, marking BRP's
return to two-wheeled production
after years of focusing on side-
by-sides and three-wheelers.
The new lineup looks to be
four bikes strong with a naked
bike, sport touring, a bobber and
adventure bike forming the lineup
in the above video.
The return to two-wheeled
production marks 50 years of
Can-Am, which was one of the
pioneering companies in moto-
cross and off-road competition.
"With the motorcycle industry
shifting to electric, we saw an
opportunity to reclaim our motor-
cycle heritage and to re-enter the
market," said José Boisjoli, Presi-
dent and CEO of BRP. "This new
product category is extremely
important to us, and we are
thrilled that Can-Am motorcycles
are the first EV models in BRP's
electric lineup to be confirmed
to consumers. Many of us have
very fond memories of riding the
early dirt bike models, and now
we look forward to building on
the rich history of the Can-Am
brand to inspire and impress a
new generation of motorcyclists
and electric vehicle enthusiasts."
Details are light on the new
models but expect them to be
powered by much of the technol-
ogy that was created by the now
defunct Alta. BRP acquired cer-
tain assets including intellectual
property and patents from Alta in
early 2019, just after the SoCal
company went belly-up. Patents
were thus filed in 2020 for a new
range of electric motorcycles
with different battery, frame and
electric motor configurations, the
fruits of which we'll be seeing in
2024.
