Old-School
Mudder at
Daytona
Vintage
Supercross
V
intage bikes took to the track
on Tuesday, March 8, for the
Fourth Annual Daytona Vintage
Supercross, which features four
decades of motocross motor-
cycle history. Over 300 riders
competed in championships
and trophies in 34 vintage and
modern classes. Classes ranging
from 125cc to Golden Masters
(60+) were featured, with riders
from all over the country compet-
ing. Classes were broken into
six different groups starting with
Vintage and going through 2008
with the Revolution 2 classes.
The competitors were racing
on basically the same layout that
the pros raced on Saturday night,
though it was tamed down con-
siderably, and rain on Monday
night made for wet conditions for
the Vintage riders.
Randy Richardson (Husqvar-
na) was one of the big winners of
the day, the South Carolina rider
winning titles in the Vintage 250,
Vintage Masters (50+) and Evo
1 Masters (50+) classes. Rich-
ardson swept both motos in the
Vintage Masters (50+) and Evo 1
Masters (50+) classes, but went
2-1 in the Vintage 250 class,
finishing behind Billy Harbert
(Husqvarna) in the first moto.
One of the most popular class-
es was the Revolution 1 Masters
50+ class, which featured 17 rid-
ers. Tod Gilbert (Suzuki) of Ohio
won both motos for the overall
win, while Mark Green (Honda)
went 6-2 for second and James
Nagy (Yamaha) went 2-8 for third.
Gilbert also finished second
in the Revolution 1 Masters 50+
class with a 1-4 performance,
a division that was won by Troy
Collier (Yamaha) with a 3-1 moto
tally. Anthony Dimarzio (Honda)
went 4-2 for third overall.

A little bit of mud didn't keep many
of the riders from playing on their
precious vintage metal. They
certainly kept the spirit of old-school
motocross/supercross alive.
