Kevin Benavides.
American Ricky Brabec was
fourth on the day and is now sec-
ond in the overall standings, four
minutes and 23 seconds behind
leader Kevin Benavides.
"Day two was a good one,"
Brabec said. "A long, hot day. It
was great. We're now here in the
bivouac getting ready for tomor-
row. The stage was long. I lost
maybe five minutes ... [it] was
really hot in the dunes. I made no
mistakes but a couple of other
people crashed. We capitalized
on that, and we will go on the
attack tomorrow. The team is in a
great position and we're looking
forward to tomorrow."
Brabec's teammate Jose Igna-
cio Cornejo is third overall, sitting
just 40-plus seconds back.
GasGas rider Sam Sunderland
is another 40 seconds back in
fourth and approximately another
minute-and-a-half back is Hon-
da's third rider Pablo Quintanilla.
Luciano Benavides, Toby Price,
who had a navigational issue
early on and a crash during stage
two, Stefano Caimi, Joaquim
Rodrigues and Matthias Walkner
round out the top 10 overall.
"Day two is done now and it
went okay," said Price. "I was
making good progress up to
around kilometer 140 where I
had a bit of a crash. The bike
landed on top of me and burned
the inside of my arm, which isn't
great, but other than that it was
a pretty solid day. It's definitely
a tough rally—the heat doesn't
help—but I'm pleased with how
things are going and I'm ready for
day three."
Stage three of the 2022
Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge—
the second leg of the event's
marathon stage—will see riders
complete a total distance of 180
miles in a looped route from the
bivouac at Hameem. Approxi-
mately 160 miles will be raced
against the clock.
