Rossi's Team
Launches
In Italy
V
alentino Rossi's first official
MotoGP team was launched
last week in Italy with stepbrother
Luca Marini and rookie Marco
Bezzecchi heading the rider list.
Rossi retired last year after 26
seasons of grand prix racing and
has since moved into sportscar
competition. The expansion of
Rossi's VR46 team into MotoGP
means they will no longer run a
Moto3 outfit but will continue to
race in Moto2 with riders Celesti-
no Vietti and class rookie, Niccolo
Antonelli. Both the MotoGP team
and Moto2 team will be spon-
sored by Italian bank, Mooney.
"It has been a long way since
Moto3, but now we are ready to
make our debut in MotoGP with
a VR46 team and four young rid-
ers (including Yamaha's Franco
Morbidelli and Ducati's Francesco
Bagnaia) who I know will give their
100 percent," Rossi said. "It is
the closing of a circle for me and
also for all the people who have
worked with so much passion on
this project over the years. At the
same time, it is a great debut and
the beginning of a new chapter of
this beautiful story in MotoGP."
The 2022 MotoGP season
kicks off this weekend with the
Grand Prix of Qatar.
