VOL. 50 ISSUE 29 JULY 23, 2013
For the first time since turning pro
in 2006, Ryan Villopoto nabbed
his first win at his home track of
Washougal.

When it got down to racing,
moto one was all Dungey, as the
number-one KTM grabbed the
holeshot and led every lap of the
race.
Villopoto, on the other hand,
wheelied off the line and then
took several laps to pass James
Stewart before moving into second on lap 10.
"James was riding well," said
Villopoto. "I tried to make some
runs on him, but the track is
wide, and then it comes down to
a skinny part that's single file in
the turns and that made it tough,
but I was able to get around him."
In fact, Villopoto made the
pass on Stewart using an outside
line, which may or may not have
been symbolic.
At Red Bud, two weeks before, Villopoto tried to pass Stewart on an outside line and Stewart
ended up forcing Villopoto off the
track. In the Red Bud post-race
press conference, Stewart made
the comment, "no one passes
me on the outside." At Washougal, Villopoto seemed to make an
obvious attempt to force his way
around Stewart on an outside
line and this time he was successful in making the pass. Was
it was an obvious "statement" in
regards to Stewart's comment after Red Bud?
"I was in the press conference
at Red Bud and I heard Stewart's comments," said Villopoto.
"That's the risk you take when
you try a pass on the outside and
sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. At Red Bud, it
was no big deal; I just got shoved
off the track. But here the outside
line worked and I made it stick
and it felt good to pass him on
the outside."
Once into second, Villopoto

its tall trees coming into play, and
Cianciarulo would eventually score
16th for a season-high 10th overall. "It was a tough one out there
today, but I'm happy to walk away
with a top 10," said Cianciarulo.
"My KX250F was working great,
but this track truly presents some
major challenges. It's fun and it's
definitely one-of-a-kind, and I
learned a lot about what it takes to
succeed here. We'll take this, keep
working, and try to come out better
next weekend."
Team Muscle Milk Honda's Justin
Barcia had an up and down day,
finishing fourth in the first 450 moto
after running second on the first
few laps. In the second moto, Barcia crashed twice and ended the
day in 10th overall after going 4-17.
Blake Baggett jumped out to a
great start in the first moto and was
running second, but an unfortunate
bike issue in the final 10 minutes of
the race left him pushing his bike
back to the pits with an apparent
blown motor. In the second moto,
the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider finished in eighth for
15th overall.
Washougal is definitely not one of
Trey Canard's favorite tracks. The
Team Muscle Milk Honda rider has
broken his femur twice at the facility, and he didn't have much luck
here again this year, though he did
leave Washington under his own
power, which is a good thing. The
Oklahoman fell in moto one and
suffered a horrible start in moto two
to come away with a 12-11 for 12th
overall.
