VOL. 50 ISSUE 29 JULY 23, 2013 just over a second ahead of National Guard/Celtic Racing's James Rispoli. The Triumphs of Bobby Fong and Joey Pascarella rounded out the top 10. With his seventh win in eight races, Beaubier leads the series standings by 56 points, 247-191. Beach is third with 154 points, five better than Gerloff. Bobby Fong (Triumph) 10.Joey Pascarella (Triumph) JD Beach leads Jason DiSalvo and Jake Lewis in the battle for fourth place. P87 Briefly... little too deep into two and tucked the front." With the AMA providing the sideshow for the MotoGP weekend, the grid for all three AMA races featured the same three-riderper-row arrangement as MotoGP uses at each of its races. Josh Hayes liked the three-across grid. "I think it's more of an advantage for pole," Hayes said. "I think it's safer and I think qualifying plays a bigger role in the race with a little bit of an advantage. Mid-Ohio was a nightmare and I don't think a pole sitter got a holeshot all weekend. It's just in the wrong place on the racetrack, but if you had that gap maybe it would change things a bit. And I think it also makes the grid seem a little more full when we're having small grids like we are right now. Maybe it's something we should consider. I think there are benefits for it and I'd prefer it myself." In winning his sixth race of the season, Hayes now has 39 ca- reer AMA Superbike wins. "It's not how I expected the race would play out, but I'm glad," Hayes said. "My idea of the race was that it would be more like Ohio where the guys were there for half the race and maybe in the second half I would have a little more pace than them. The race actually came to me better than any session all weekend and things clicked well. The lap times came pretty easy and I didn't make many mistakes and it was a really smooth race for me. I'm glad it came together for me in the race. I feel like I've been working hard all weekend and in the race it happened a little more naturally I felt like." With the AMA races not having a TV deal in place to air the Laguna Seca round, as most in the paddock figured, it turned out to be much ado about nothing as negotiations with Dorna on Thursday and Friday led to a TV feed on Sunday so the action could be captured for airing at a later date on the CBS Sports Network. The AMA paddock drew a collective breath of relief on Sunday morning when it learned that Travis Ohge's condition had improved overnight at the Santa Clara Medical Center in San Jose, California. Ohge crashed out of the Supersport final on Saturday on the eighth lap in turn six and and suffered head injuries. He was treated trackside for several minutes before being transported to San Jose via helicopter. According to AMA officials, Ohge's outlook for recovery is "positive."
