LOOKING BACK
Our 1982 Yamaha XZ550RJ Vision test bike was pictured on the cover
40 years ago. The 552cc V-twin street bike sold for $3099... We had
coverage of the Atlanta Supercross. It was a muddy one, but that didn't
matter to the "Hurricane" Bob Hannah who came clean with the win
ahead of Donnie Hansen and Darrell Shultz... Terry Cunningham,
aboard his Husqvarna 430 Auto, won the Stone Mountain National
Enduro in West Armuchee, Georgia... We had coverage of Larry
Roeseler's first-ever National win at the Coyote Derby Enduro.
We showed you some of the faces of desert racing on the cover 50
years ago. It helped to get on the cover if you had a Cycle News sticker
on your visor... Brad Lackey was tearing up the local motocross scene.
One of his latest wins was on a Kawasaki KX450 (but might've been a
490, we speculated) at Indian Dunes... We featured a Daytona preview...
Motorcycles were cresting the once unclimbable Matterhorn hillclimb one
after the other at Saddleback Park. We titled our latest coverage of the
famous hillclimb, "The Day the Matterhorn Died."
