VOLUME 59 ISSUE 3 JANUARY 19, 2022 P55 MYOWNRACE 1 COOPER WEBB 7TH 450SX The defending champ was another rider who suffered a tough night in Oakland. Webb never seemed to have that extra level to run up front and finished seventh on the night. He opened up a er the race about a cold he's been ba ling and men- oned how that affected his overall result. "I had a terrible start in the main and I made my way forward as best I could," he said. "It was definitely tough ba ling the sickness, but I'm going to get healthy this week and go into San Diego with a fresh body and fresh slate. As far as the cham- pionship goes, we're s ll in a good spot so we'll see where it ends up." 23 CHASE SEXTON 9TH 450SX "The first couple of qualifying sessions were good and then everything kind of went downhill," said Chase Sexton. "Ken and I got together in the final session and both of us went down pre y hard. A er that, I actually ended up winning my heat race but besides that I kind of just felt uncomfortable in the whoops and with the track in general. It was a tough day for me." NICHOLS UPDATE 2021 250SX East Champion Colt Nichols said he underwent surgery on his two broken arms and had a skin graft performed on his back (from the bike's hot exhaust pipe) after his crash in his heat race at Anaheim 1. He did not mention when he might return. "Life doesn't always make sense, but we must get back up and keep going," he said. "Just like my championship post said last May—to hell and back—because I've overcome far too much to stop now." NOT SO POSITIVE On Friday, SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/ MotoConcepts Honda rider Justin Brayton tested positive for Covid and did not race. AC ON HIS AC SEPARATION For the second time in a row, Adam Cianciarulo got off to a fast start in the main (and heat race) but his bum shoulder prevented him from maintaining that pace the whole way. "This was another challeng- ing weekend for us, but we have a number of positives to take away from it," Cianciarulo said. "I got out to two holeshots and was feeling comfortable up front early in the heat race and again in the main event. I did the best I could with my situation tonight and that's what I'll continue to do each day going forward. We are still on track with our goal of getting healthier every week and progress- ing back to full form as the condition of my shoulder improves." Briefly... (Above) It's only been two races, but Justin Barcia has been the most consistent top finisher. As a result, he's the new points leader.
