Mike LaRocco was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 30 years ago
for winning the Supercross opener at Orlando. Jeff Stanton and Jeff
Ward made up the 250cc-class podium. Brian Swink won the 125cc East
main event ahead of Ezra Lusk and Jimmy Button... We featured a dual
interview with flat trackers Steve Morehead and Terry Poovey... Vince
DeVane, Doug Henry, Tyson Vohland and Roy Snellingen were some
of the big winners in the East Coast
(Florida Winter AM) and West Coast
(Golden State) MX Series races.

The opening round of the 2002 Supercross Championship at Anaheim had
a lot of surprises with David Vuillemin taking the win, Ricky Carmichael
crashing out and Jeremy McGrath finishing 13th. Mike LaRocco and
Ernesto Fonseca filled out the podium. In the 125cc class, Travis
Preston took a somewhat unexpected victory adding to the night of
surprises... KTM rider Fabrizio Moeni took the early lead in the Arras-
Madrid-Dakar Rally... Alan Cathcart rode Colin Edwards' Castrol Honda
RC51/SP-2 World Superbike... We also ran a test of the MZ RT125
street bike.
