The Minis kicked off the evening with Jason Bell and Walt Stoutenberg, both Yamaha-mounted, backing it in for one of the tightest matches of the night. Throughout both motos, they were on the pipe and fighting over the lead, with Tim Walton pressuring hard in third. When the checkered flag waved them home, nell took home the gold, Stoutenberg cinched second place and Walton took down third overall. Roger Thompson, aboard a mean, green Kawasaki for KRW Helmets, gathered top honors in the 250cc District Combo contest. The start of their first moto was a drag race for command between Curtis Cannon and Donald Windham. Cannon won the point and fought to hold off Thompson. These two men left a wheel-to-wheel duel between Lee Lindquist and Ron Wood for third. The two men drove their fans up the pit wall with slides through infamous turn two. Second moto action found Lindquist, Thompson and Cannon flying into turn one in a classic "T" formation. With two riders sliding out, Thompson edged ahead and into the lead for top honors of the night. Cannon, aboard a Yamaha for Simpson Helmets, held firm for second place and Wood was third.
