second. Behind these two were Stallard, Dean Cates and Rick Nagle. The battle for third had Nagle pushing to the inside, but Cates took the longer outside line, with better traction, to get ahead of Stallard. Blose, one of the many caught in the second turn crash-a-rama, had tenaciously worked his way into seventh. Four positions ahead, Cates pounced on Hayes and in a few laps had gotten by to try and catch Dricks. Running in fourth, Nagle miscalculated a berm and hit a restraining fence; he got up to finish seventh. Cates was close enough to smell Dircks' exhaust fumes with a little less than 10 minutes to go. The Roost Factory rider stayed ahead with his smoother line over the whoops while Cates had problems with lappers. Dircks didn't seem concerned though, probably because he thought Hayes was still in second and he was a good 10 seconds behind. "E verytime I looked back all I could see was Hayes," Dircks said afterwards. Following behind Dircks and Cates was Fox and O'Neal rider Hayes, Blose, Vince McMahon and Stallard. When the gate dropped in the second mota, Blose avoided any first turn problems by getting there ahead of Hayes, Stallard and Dircks. Suzukimounted Dircks took third, then second, all within a half a lap. He still had a Honda to pass in first. After five years of racing against Blose, Dircks knew how to handle the situation. He just sat back and waited for the mistakes. A few laps later Blose dropped it around a berm; he got up in time to stay ahead of Cates, but Dircks was long gone. Cates had put away Hayes to take over third with half the race to go. Finishing up in fourth was McMahon, then Honda riders Tim Richardson, Stallard, Nagel and Shoemaker. to be as competitive on price; as we are on the track. Open Pro The Open class was dominated by the out-of-staters; Don Griewe took his Honda to a I-I finish over 10 others. Bryan Hayes went to an early lead in the first start, but was passed by Griewe around the sweeper. Jim Mitchell took over second with Kevin Davis pushing his KTM to fourth. The next mota had Griewe taking the early lead. Hayes had first lap problems and was 30 seconds behind the last place rider. In the 30 minute moto, he caught up to a comeback finish of sixth. Mitchell overtook Davis for second, while Griewe had a comfortable 30 second lead into the pits. James George and Micky Dymond rounded out the top five. _ Results Y ZINGERS: 1. Jesse James (Yam); 2.
