PRODUCT EVALUATION Gaerne Boots from Answer Products Answer Products imports the Gaerne boot line from Italy for sales in the good 01' U.S. of A. These boots are handcrafted . from top-grade leather and use inside laces and Velcro® fastening for complete security and maximum support. Two leather straps fasten the lower section of the boot and the combined system of fastening is designed to provide super protection with plenty of ankle movement. . The Gaerne motocross boots are available in sizes 1-13 with a choice of yellow, blue, red or black colors. Gaerne also makes an enduro boot with traction soles in only the black color. The enduro boots use the buckle system instead of the Velcro and come with a pair of Answer Products bootsavers for water-proofing. The enduro boots are available in sizes 7·13. We tested two pair of motocross boots, one pair yellow and the other. red. Both pairs were too large and we had to reorder one size smaller than our normal shoe size. We then abused the new boots rather badly for over three months. The yellow pair was worn in competition at least once a week and this one particularlythoughtless rider failed to even clean, let alone treat the leather boots once during that time. This wasn't very' fair to Answer, but it did give us a good idea of just how much abuse the boots could withstand. The red pair of boots were treated nicely and still look great, the yellow boots actually look surprisingly good. We cleaned the boots with saddlesoap and, though they were scuffed and blackened a bit on the inside, the rest of the boots look great. We still felt the boots were a little heavy, but a quick look over the outside showed us that, despite the abuse, all the seams were intact and the toe plates secure. The padding on the boots is responsible for much of the weight as well as mUj:h of the protection. After spending so much time in the boots, we felt that the superior protection and durability was well worth the heavy feeling. We're also happy to know that the boots survived the abuse so well that we'll be able to use them for some time to come.
