Californi'an Kyle Lewis battled -Larry Ward and it was Lewis on top in four straight motos in the 7 to II 85cc Stock and Modified classes. The second mota saw Tichenor DNF and Storbeck win to take the Modified class honors to add to his week old Texas State GNC Championship. Mark Melton won the 12 to 15 overall MX trophy. In the Tichenor pits the Olympic 12 to 15 85cc class overall victory was bittersweet. "Yamaha practically ignored us all weekend," said Ronnie's father, Ron.. "They won~t give us specs on the '83 bikes. I can't understan .t." Tichenor has a reputation for helping many Florida rider~ with techical improvements over the years. Michigan's David Tambling took the lOOcc class win after Brian Stanley fell. Stanley edged out North Carolina's Jeff Bowling for second overall. Bowen and Todd Harrell split wins in exciting races in the 125cc class. Bowen had to pass Rodney Barr, Stanley, and Eddie Warren to cop the first mota. Harrell romped past Barr for the second mota win as Kawasaki's Tim Aston logged another third. Honda's Jahner Kight passed Harrell to lead the first 250cc mota but Bowen had the momentum and saw b Yarnell's Oa fil'st.- - - - - - -. . John Collins was too quick a rabbit in mota two and he dominated the race. Kight, Harrell and Bowen stirred the pot for second with Kight taking _ the honors and Bowen the Amateur division MX award. At the trophy presentation, Yamaha's Willie Amaradio presented a 1982 Yamaha to each division's Olympic champion. Hi-Paint's Larry Maiers, who served as announcer for the four days of racing, presented contingencyawards from TRIM, Hannah Racing, Scott, Wiseco, Hi-Point and other firms. Promoter Bill West brought the award ceremony to a close by saying, "Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda all brought riders, techicians and enthusiasm to this event. They really helped make it a success.
