Oregon RR club salutes season • winners By Russ Cazier PORTLAND, OR, NOV. 20 The Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association held its annual awards banquet at the HiHat restaurant in Portland to award trophies to the racers and recognize the essential labors performed by club support personnel. Gene Brown was again Rider of the Year, gaining the most points for the season. This was despite being sidelined with injuries for one race of the season and failing to win any class. Brown should have little trouble getting invited to ride in endurance events. In one race, Brown rode in every heat of an eight heat, two round format. Keith Pinkstff, second in overall season points, scored a first in each of the classes in which he competed. He accepted each trophy with thanks to those who made it possible: Wheelsport, Dan Freeman and his wife. Martha. Room had to be found on the Pinkstaff table for one more trophy. Howard Pinkstff, Keith's dad, took a second: in Open Single GP and a standing ovation from the crowd. Club officers and race support personnel were presented jackets and hats and free memberships for next year. Ken Neill announced that he will continue as club president for 1983. \ • _, I .. , 1''- ..... I ...... ~ to the exuberant approval of the assemblage. Road racing is catching on big in Oregon, with each race setting new records of entries and spectators. The club treasury is faced with an embarrassment of riches and the pleasant task of finding ways to spend the money. One wag suggested spending part of it to hire surveillance on Ken Neill should he attempt to purchase airline tickets to Acupu1co. The' first race of 1983 will be in . mid-April. Viking Ind. will send to each oil resistant insert and speed inreader of this P4blication who stallation and removal.
