PRODUCT EVALUATION "' 00 lo-4 Q.) ..0 8 Q.) u Q.) o Dunlop Sport Elite road tire WEST In recent years, production road bikes have been offering improved handling to complement the high horsepower figures of current powerplants. Before a talented rider can put both handling and horsepower to use, he/she needs a tire that's up to the task when gassing it. Dunlop's new Sport Elite tires will complement the performance of any state of the art road bike, but you'll have LO pay the price. We tested the E':-cj-:-it-e-s-(r-ea-r-u-:-'r-e-o-n-:-Iy-) on a Kawasaki G Pz550 and a Yamaha Seca 750, and in both cases the Elites were just as competitive as the riders using them. Both riders enjoy wringing their bike out and found the Dunlops helping them do it. The Seca rider almost looped his bike when he decided LO break in the" Elite with a burn-out. Contrary LO his previous tire, the Elite didn't break loose but rather hooked up and pointed the Seca's front end at the sky. While cornering, the Seca rider found the Elite offering more adhesion than his previous tire. When he leaned into a turn he had more time to concentrate because he didn't have to wait and see if the rear end would drift. The GPz rider has 3,500 mile on his Elite and it's showing significant wear. He noted that almost all the miles were put on in town, with hard stop and start riding, and that he waS satisfied with the performance and mileage he received from the Elite. The cross-grooved tacky compound Elites are superior quality, and carry an above average price ta'g to match. The 5.10 x 18 we put on the eca retails for $95.37, and a 3.50 x 19 front tire to match retails for $82.22. If you're into pavement scraping at high rates of speed, we'll recommend the Dunlop Sport Elites. If you're an average rider who just likes to bop around, we'd suggest a lower priced street tire. Sport Elites come in tube and tubeless models.
