The Swedish Maico pilot struck again:
Ake Jonsson recorded his seventh
straight overall win in the TransAMA MX Series, this time doing the
deed in Puyallup, WA. In a day
where mechanical troubles hindered
many of the top runners, Arne Kring
(Hus) wound up second overall with
no inoto finish higher than fourth.
Nursing a bad left knee, Roger DeCoster (Suz) finished third. Kawasaki's Brad Lackey rode in the top 10
all day for a seventh overall and top
American finish. "Bad Brad" also
clinched the 500cc National MX title.
After running most of the series in
the International class, Bill Clements
(Hus) switched to the 250cc Support
and won both motos going away.

The American Motorcycle Drag Racing Association held its national meet
at Atco, NJ. In Top Fuel action, the
double engine Harley-Davidson of
Dan Johnson was top qualifier with
a 9.03-second run at 172.08 mph. But
when it came down to the finals, it
was the single engine H-D of Dick
Prime against the double Norton of
T.C. Christenson. Prime ran into
clutch troubles, and Christenson
soloed to the win. Sonny Routt (Tri)
was the Top Gas wi~ner.
ACA road racers encountered a slippery track at Carlsbad Raceway, but
that didn't stop Lee Fleming from
taking Heavyweight Production
honors on a Honda 750. Bob Endicott
used a similar machine to take Open
GP after Jim Evans' 350 Yamaha
inhaled sand.

The racing Myerscough family was
out in force at an NRA motocross at
Deadman's Point. Brian was the first
winner of the day, taking the Mini
class on a Honda. Then brother John
won the 125cc Junior class on a
Bultaco.
SoCaI M.e. held their annual Turkey
Run at Red Mountain. Tom Brooks
had his 125 DKW in the lead at the
bomb, but then crashed and handed
the lead to Larry Pfutzenreuter (Bul),
who carried it on to the finish. Bill
Saltzman (Hus) finished second overall and third went to Doug Winchell
(Bul). Puch rider Bill Friant won the
Division II honors and Larry RoeseIer pileted a Harley-Davidson Baja
to first Trailbike.
Monte Bothum (Hus) defeated Cl
riders Rick Burgett and Ron Long to
win the Open Expert class of a motocross race at Deshutes Cycle Park in
Bend, OR.
Walt Foster captured the 250cc Expert
laurels in both the short track and a
half mile legs of a night flat track
event at Corona Raceway.

It was announced that Marty Tripes
had signed with American Honda to
compete on the yet-to-he-released
Elsinore two-strokes. Three other
riders were to he named to the team,
with the debut expected at the final
Trans-AMA of the year. Like Tripes,
at least two more were expected from
the Yamaha camp.
