Corona triple header By Elaine Jones CORONA, CA, OCT. 24 Pete Hames could do no wrong today at Corona Raceway as he made no mistakes on his way to five wins the Money in divisions. Hames' opening shot was the 250cc Mo~ey short track where he went wire-to-wire. Ross Klatt got off second with Greg Nelson third. Nelson dogged Klatt for three laps before he found the hole he was looking for and took over second. Curtis Cannon was working his way through the pack, but it was a case of not having enough time. When it ran out he settled for fourth behind Klatt. Hames came right back to the line for the Open Money short track, and it was an instant replay with another wire-to-wire romp. Jeff Johnson locked into second and gave Hames a run for his money, but couldn't shake the "Semi Flash." Mike Kirby seemed to have third nailed down, but hedidn't count on' Roger Thompson, who went flying by on the white flag lap and came up with third. Hames had to work a little bit in the Open Money TT as Jeff Johnson got the jump off the line, but, with only two laps down, Hames took over the lead and was gone. Jim Rose claimed third. Hames was back on track in the 250cc Money half mile. He got his usual excellent start and never looked back. Roger Thompson locked up the second spot with Curtis Cannon firmly entrenched in third. They finished in that order. The Open Money half mile was another case of follow the leader, and as the premise had been all day long, it was Hames the leader with Jeff Johnson and Roger Thompson trying to pick up on the secret of his success. The teacher was not about to be outdone by the pupils and they were one, two, three at the finish. The 250cc Money IT was the only class that didn't fall to the Hames attack simply because he didn't run it. Ross Klatt was the first man but followed by Roger Thompson and Mike Kirby. Kirby put a smooth move on both Klatt and Thompson and was rewarded'with the lead. Klatt dropped to third and Thompson moved up a notch to second. Greg Nelson was trying to get into the money; he got by Klatt on the fourth lap, but Klatt wasn't about to give up. On the white flag lap he regained his position and was third behind Kirby and Thompson at the checkered. Results SHORT TRACK PEE WEE: 1. Jennifer Raymond (Han); 2. Carrie Huff (Han); 3. Rosenberg, Spearing take over at Arroyo By Bob Alloy RIVERSIDE, CA, OCT. 30 The track at Arroyo was just perfect today after Saturday's rain; things were just wet enough to give good traction and 30 Old Timers blasted away and had ourselves a great time. Ten laps were given each moto, and that's enough time to make it happen. There were five different races and things finished up bright and early. Dennis Rosenberg of Masters got things underway in a great way with his wrap-up of both motos. Willison also ran a terrific race out there and brought home both second place wins. Junior Master George Spearing had another one of his super days with wins in both motos. Dick Frampton was in with the best with two second places. The Expert class starred Bob De Miranda and his fast Mugen bike. Bob expertly wrapped up a first overall win. Asker Larnkjaer took second place in moto one and Cal Browning took it in moto two. Amateur Dick Burley is on a winning streak with no end in sight. He chalked up another I-I for an overall first place. Al Smith is also a very accomplished and competitive rider and he made out all right with his two second place moto finishes. Bob Klatt really got going out there and ca.me through with both third place wIns. Oren Spahn of the Novice division was the fastest man out there, and he rode away in first place. Mc Cauley was in second at the checkered flag and Maynard crossed over with third. Mc Cauley gave it more gas in the second moto and came up with first place. Blodgett took a second and Dick Doyle filled in third place at the 0 finish. Results MASTERS: 1. Dennis Rosenberg; 2. Willison. JR MASTERS: 1. George Spearing; 2. Dick Frampton. EX: 1.
