Kawasaki-mounted Jon Woo fOll~hl Rich Oliver untillap six when bliver slid out in turn two's sweeper. Doherty, taking over second place, tried hard to catch him, but in vain, as Woo rode smoothly to the win. Peltz fought Kurt Bickel in F2 and beat him, and Bickel reciprocated by letting Kevin try his Can Am in the F3 race. Peltz took a fourth in that one. The singles race was quite exciting as Chuck McAvoy and Kurt Sager duelled to the finish, with Sager taking it right at the line. Scott Gray worked very hard to take home a trophy, and he only had to crash three times to get one. He took second to Mike Krolick in 750cc Modified Production, and just shrugged off his crashes. With a schedule that allowed time to race both events, the turf was pounding and motocross fans got more than their money's worth. The 250cc Intermediate contest was a cliffhanger from beginning to finish. First moto action found Glen Wells holeshotting. Wells, still bandaged from a crash at the San Diego Supercross race, found long-time foe and friend, Pat Delligatta, breathing down his jersey. Delligatta finally snaked the lead wi th Joe Melton of Sandman Racing and Suzuki City entry John Gannon taking over second ana third. Wells found himself forced to fourth and held in that position to the end. When the machines blasted off the grid for their second round of action, Wells once more led the charge and, as before, found Delligatta reeling him in. With Gartnon in third and Molton running fourth, the top four contenders were all inches apart in their bid for the lead. Delligatta took command at the base of the starting hill, leaving Wells to fight off Gan: non. The Wells/Gannon dice was absolutely mad! Gannon finally slipped on into second, followed by Molton, winner of the first moto. When the finish line loomed into sight, Delligatta emerged triumphant, Gannon's smooth 2-2 ride netted him second overall and Molton, with a 1-3 tally, claimed third. As for the Pro action of the day, whenever you mix Jim Tarantino and Saddleback you get instant excitement and high action. With an average lap time of 1:34, Tarantino's LOP Honda blitzed the field for a superb pair of back-to-back wins for the 250cc Pros. While Tarantino was running away with the race, some heavy dicing was going on for second place between Vince McMahon, riding for Malcolm Smith, and Gary Adams, out of Torrance Honda. When the checkered flag waved them home, Tarantino disappeared out of sight and back to the pits with the golq. McMahon's 2-2 ride brought him second place loot and Adams captured third overall with a 4-3 tally. Results 60 STK NOV: 1. Timmy Olson (Yam). 60 STK EX: 1. Jason Collier (Han); 2. Williams wails at DeAnzaMX By Kit Palmer SUNNYMEAD, CA, NOV. 14 Kawasaki mounted Mike Williams emerged on top of the 125cc Beginner class today at DeAnza Cycle Park after trading 1-2 scores with Anthony Magallanes (Yam). Williams took the overall by winning the all-important second moto. The battle began with Magallanes jamming to the front of the pack in the first moto followed by Williams, Andrew T. Popovich (Hon), Andy Leisner (Suz) and Stephen Shelton (Kaw). In sixth, Bill Anders (Yam) was the first to make a move; passing both Shelton and Leis'ner during the same lap. Then, it was Popovich's turn to strike; he snuck by Williams a lap later taking over second spot. However, Williams, not happy in third, stayed gl ued to Popovich's rear fender fqr the next two laps until Williams had retaken second. While the pack was fighting for positions, Magallanes was enjoying a cautious lead, eventually taking the win ahead of Williams, Popovich and Anders. The second moto start saw Magallanes again dart into the lead pursued by Williams, Leisner, Popovich and Anders. By the end of lap one, both Popovich and Anders snuck by Leisner, while Magallanes and Williams began duelling for the lead. The two leaders were neck 'n neck for the next three laps, until Williams burned Magallanes by taking over the lead. Williams managed to stretch his.lead with each lap until he had crossed the finish line in front of the pack. Magallanes followed in second while third and fou'rth went to Popovich and Anders. Roger Hawkinsay put in two fine rides in the 250cc Beginner class to capture the win with a 2-1 tally, ed~ in~oUl 1-2 finisher Mike Allen (Hon). Hawkinsay had 10 I'('Clllx'rale from two poor starts until he had found himself running with the leaders. In the deciding second moto, Hawkinsay had to pass five riders before he could claim the top spot. Third overall with a 4-3 score was Joe McCoy (Yam) while a 3-4 combo by Andy Boren (Hon) was good enough for fourth. Results PEE WEE: 1. Devid Hushes (Suz); 2. Chris Moore (Suz); 3.
