Maico's new Spider MX series features new engines for '83 that are lighter and more compact then ever. The most welcome change is the absence of
the primary chain. Both motors have primary gear drive. New cases house a new wire spring tensioned clutch with a rubber cushioned housing on the
490. Maico says that the only carryover items readily visible are the shift lever and the drain plug. (Right) The new MXers feature new frames and
swingarms with twin rocker rear suspension systems. Springing and damp ing chores are ably handled by Ohlins. Claimed power is 40 horses on the 250
,nd 53 on the 490, and the claimed weight of the 250 is 218 pounds. Enduro models use reed inducted engines with basically '82 frames and lower ends.
