TEN YEARS CONGRATULATES: TEAM KAWASAKI AGO Ake Jonsson won his second TransAMA MX Series event in a row when he took the International class at Road Atlanta. Second behind the Swedish rider was Suzuki's l\oger DeCoster, with third overall going to top American Jimmy Weinert on a works 500 Yamaha. The Jammer's finish was the best ever by an American in Trans-AMA competition. The results were as follows: Tom Brooks took first overall on a 125 DKW, followed by Check Chase winner Larry Pfutzenreuter on a 250 Bultaco. Dave Aldana captured the Expert main event at Ascot's weekly half mile, riding a Norton to take the checkered flag in front of the Triumph of Frank Gillespie. Brian LaPlante was likewise Norton-mounted when he took the Junior main event. In the Novice class, John Gennai took the victory, pressured all the way by Hank Scott. Jim Evans won two classes at an ACA road race at Carlsbad Raceway, finishing first in the 100 and 250cc Senior GP classes. Whitney Blakeslee was the winner in 175cc Senior GP, and an Ital-jet rider by the name of Eddie Lawson was the 50cc Junior GP winner. The Golden Bear Enduro ran successfully in the desert, despite the best attempts of the Department of Defense and the Sierra Club to stop it. The sponsoring club obtained permission to use a few miles worth of military land for their course, and obtained permission to do so. But when Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird heard about it, he sent an official decree revoking that permission. With added pressure from the Sierra Club, the course had to be rerouted at the last minute, but the event ran as scheduled. In a D-37 TT at Adelanto (CA) Cycle Park, the order of finish in the 500cc Expert class read: Tommy Jarnagan, Vince Graves and Jim Connolly. In' the 250cc class, the order ran: Mike Myers, Jim Wright and Dennis Briggs.
