Steve pressured jT so much that john had to keep the gas onjust a little too long for the infield turn and slid wide, dropping the big bore twin and letting the entire field get by before he could remount and gas it. Steve had a good lead going, but got pressure from Iwanaga and Perri who closed the gap at the finish, but had little chance for an honest pass. Terry Graham copped the fourth over Wayne Morrill, Danny Malfattie and Eric Weisler. Jim Anderson continues to dominate in Oregon MX. up. Schlag held second for a bit, but was no match for the Team Honda machine and settled in for third overall, while McRae came back with a 5-4 for fourth over john Beeman (7-5). Wosick was the big Open Pro winner while Jerry Brandt and Schlag duked it out for second. Brandt ran second in the first mota while Schlag had to work up to third. In the second round , Brandt and his Concord Yamaha /YZ diced with the factory KTM throughout the race and had to settle for third with leaking fork seals and tweaked bars after a good tussle. Anderson (Yam support! MX Fox/Kal-Gard/ ATK/Dallas Baker Products) won another four motos tonight at Portland • 40 International Raceway's Thursday night MX. Anderson took double mota wins over small fields in both the 125 and 250cc contests. Tim Michlitsch (Kaw support/DG, Bel-Ray/ Arai) was the 125cc runner-up, posting consecutive seconds, while Ted Holt (D & S Cycle's Suzuki/Krause Racing) finished with a 3-3 tally for third overall. The 250cc action saw another D & S Cycles rider, Ron Vandehey aboard his trusty Husky ,. take the second overall spot while Michlitsch had problems and finished third. Maico-Husky NW mounted Scott Tyler ventured from his home in Olympia to sweep the Open Pro class again with Small Engine Specialties Husky-mounted Brian Hall the runner-up. Results PP: 1. Carrillo captures Baylands TT scrambles renewal By Bill Spencer FREMONT, CA, SEPT. I TT scrambles racing returned to Baylands Raceway Park in ' Fremont for the first time. in many years and, while some came out of retirement sta ting this is what they want, the normal short track crowd wasn 't around and the overall turnout was quite low , though enth usiastic: Steve Carrillo rode his Knight-framed XR500 to the win in the big 500cc Pro class - that holds no sanctions' - with john Tavis leading early on, but succumbing to the pressure and falling on his Triumph twin. McRae, Brandt lead Yamaha sweepatSHR By Sally Sideliner BRENTWOOD, CA, AUG. 29 It was truly a perfect day for racing and those aboard the Yamahas took full advantage of the newly disced track and long laps to rake in the cash. Doug McRae's Yamaha holeshot the 250cc Expert mota one. john Beeman went down in turn one allowing Bryan Wargo and Kimo Casey of Walnut Creek Honda to move up to second and third. The three broke froin the pack and as the race continued McRae stretched his lead. Wargo stalled his Honda on the uphill allowing Kimo to take second place. A good effort by Wargo allowed him to regain second by the checker. Scott Keller's Honda held a steady fourth and Gary johnson dropped out with a broken chain. Holeshot McRae did it again in mota two with Bryan Wargo again on his tail. Beeman pulled into third, Archzinger fourth and Casey in fifth. Casey put an inside pass on Archzinger and began to close on Beeman. McRae got a 20 second lead on the pack as Wargo bobbled, but maintained second. The race for third continued as Kimo passed Beeman on a right hand turn, but Beeman passed right back on the jump. Side by side through "Scorebooth Bend" and Kimo took the lead on the uphill. Kimo railed the berm and Beeman went to the inside, locked his brake and slid into Casey and they both went down , giving th ird to Gary johnson. McRae continued his flawless ride for the overall. Open Experts saw the return of joey Schlag's KTM with Gary Rabe pulling in for second. J erry Brandt's Concord Yamaha began to push Rabe early and Wayne Archer, riding for Berkeley Yamaha, held fourth. Brandt passed Rabe in the back section and began to close on Schlag at the halfway point. Brandt never caught Schlag, but mota two was a different story. Schlag holeshot again, but Brandt was back in fifth as they completed lap one. Gary Rabe h eld the number two spot aga in and soon found Brandt on his tailpipe. Brandt took over secon d, but Gar y didn 't make it easy as he continued a back and forth race for the position. Brandt finally pulled a way, but Schlag had a huge lead. Suddenly, th e KTM slowed as the rear tire went flat. joey rode the last eight laps with a flat and held fourth as Brandt brought another Yamaha to victory lane. Fudge, Lamont, Hansen lead 250s at Chico ST By Little Rich CHICO, CA, AUG. 28 . Mike Fudge, John Lamont and Dale Hansen took home first place gold tonight in their respective 250cc classes at Cycleland Speedway's short track. The 250cc Juniors left the line with Lamont getting the holeshot and Rick LeBlanc filling in second; in third was Tom Polito. Polito kept the pressure on LeBlanc all the while, looking for a way, around. LeBlanc was hot after Lamont in first, but wasn't about to let Polito find his way around. The three riders put on a good show and finished in that order. The 250cc Experts got going after a restart. Hansen led the pack into the first corner followed by Fowler, Dave Ryan and David Gresham. Ryan pushed hard and got by Fowler on lap three. Ryan was on Hansen 's tail next, looking for a way around, but to no avail. Ryan closed on Hansen, making a last lap effort at the checkered flag, but Hansen held on to take the win by a wheel, followed by Fowler and Gresham. The Pee Wee class is looking better each week with a couple of new riders getting into the class. Lowell Moural .j r. has been dominating the Pee Wees for a while, so he has been starting on the 6O-yard line, which makes the little guys a lot of fun to watch. The Pee Wees got going wi th Jason Smith taking the lead. Smith got into a wobble going into turn one while leading. Moural couldn't miss him and went down too . Smith didn't make the restart, but Moural took early command and held it for another first. . In the 250cc Handicap final , it was R yan in ch arge of first after two laps, coming from th e fiO-yardline to show how he got the Scratchman title. Randy Blankenship worked his wa y through th e traffic to fill in second spot with LeBlanc holding on to third. Results PEE WEE: 1. Lowell Moural Jr. 125 NOV: 1. Dave Kerr . 80 NOV: 1.
