(Continuedf rom page J) CMC reply Corporation is a sanctioning organization which seeks to present the sport of motorcycling to the genera l p u blic in the most en tertaining fashion po ssible . Thus far we have lim ited our activites to California, and th is appears to be one of the major reasons we are attracting budget conscio us spo nsoring ma n ufacturers, most of whom have their racing departments an d headquarters in southern California. In selecting dates for th e various even ts sanctioned by CMC, we look p rimarily to rider convenience and adeq uate spacing surrounding our other sanctioned events. It has never been our intent to run head-on into any AMA event or to h urt the AMA financially. On the con trary, we feel that AMA is due its share of credit for developi ng motorcycling throughou t the nation. However, within the sta te of California, I feel that we have a lot to offer the sponsoring manufacturer, ma ny of whom cannot afford to send travelin g teams with their numero us backup and support personnel throughout the country on a regular basis. In thi s respect, I suppose we do compete with the AMA in our own backyard, bu t we belie ve that this type of competi tion is the backbone of the free enterprise system. As far as commiun en ts from manufacturers are concern ed, CMC does its best to attract top contenders, whether factory-sponsored or otherwise. Contrary to your article, we have no thing in writing from Suzuki , Honda, or Yamaha pertaining to an ironclad commitment, bu t we have been assured by these firms, as well as numerous other Japanese and European manufacturers with racing teams tha t, so long as our events fit wi th in their limited budgets, they will continue to participate. None of these part icipan ts has ever told us it would avoid any AMA com pe titive even ts, an d we certai nly would never seek any such anti-compe titive commitmen t. As to the simultaneous withdrawal from the Trans-USA Series by H onda, Suzuki and Yamaha, CMC can only specu la te as to its origin. We kn ow that they meet in such or ga nizations as MIC, MSF, and even wi thin the AMA itself , an d that their joint interest in avoiding the tremendous expenses of travel in these difficult times could well have been behind their decision. However, CMC has never sparked or sponsored any such meeting. Another Iactor extremely important to Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha is the recent reduction of the 125cc category from National championship status to a sup port class, as the 125cc cate~ry figures prom ine n tly in the national sales of these three man ufacturers. CMC will continue to give the 125cc category equal exposure in the professional classes. As to any future commitments to CMC by these three manufacturers, as indicated by your article, wh ile we might wish this were true, no such com miun ent has been made. Yet it is the hope of CMC to continue to offer the type of event which will attract internationally qualified competitors, whe therfrom Japan, Europe, or any other part of the world. As you will see from CMC' s fort hcom ing Trans-Cal series, to be held at Saddleback Parkon Sept. 25-26, we are offering su perb entertainment to the motorsport enthusiast and max- . imum expos ure to sponsors and distributors.
