'In only his first year o f competition on the
G rand P rix circuit, Yamaha's Danny LaPorte
clinch ed the 250cc MX World Championship
wi th a so lid secon d place performance in the

mota. But soon after the start of the
second mota, lobe was knocked down,
a ll but ending his chances. H e rod e the

and finished third to Laf'orte's.second,
earnin g third overall for th e da y.
Once again, th e dom inating performance of the winner wa s almost
overlooked by those wat ching the
title fight Honda's Donnie " H oleshot" Hansen rode a pair of perfect .

tally. He won the first moto by 15
seconds and the second o ne by 19
seco nds, m aking it a grea t day for

Husky's Mik e Guerra had a disappointing, frustrating day, completing
onl y six laps in the first rnoto a nd five
in the second due to bik e problems
a nd a crash while runni ng eighth ,
and finis hed the year in seventh p lace.
