Sco tt Logston, on his Kawasaki, was just as hot as the weather ; he won every moto he ent ered - a feat he accomp lished last mo nt h as welL The first 125cc Expert moto saw Logston gra b an ea rly lea d with Odessa's Mike Lawson (H on ) la tched to his rear fender. The two set a fast pace that put them 25-seconds ahead of thi rd place Derek Van Wart (Kaw). Halfway through the race, La wson's bike kicked th e bucket giving Logston an easy win over Van Wart and G len Smith (Hon ), who had a close race for second and t hird. T he second moto saw Glen Smith with the lead followed by Van Wart, Lawson, on a borrowed Kawasaki, and Logston. On th e first lap, Logston moved to third. On the second la p, Logston disposed of Van Wart th en Smith. Van Wart ha d hoo ked into Logston's slipstream and went around Smith wh en Logston did and stayed with him until the heat did hi m in , giving Logston a comfortable lead at the finish. Lawson mo ved up to third and was closing on Van Wart , but ranout of time . Inthe 250cc Expert class, Logs ton stayed out front mos t of bo th mo tos and beat the heat in his all white uniform. Bobby Nichols (Suz) an d Steve Chappel (Hon ) put on a good race for second with Nichols ahead both motos at the finish. Scooter Webb (Kaw) was the fastest I25ccNovice on the track. His bro ther Ji mmy Webb (Yam ) smok ed the 125cc Amateurs wit h the sam e style. Watch for these two bro thers as th ey are upand-coming riders. Results 125 EX: 1. Scan Logston (Kaw ); 2. But on the plus side was th e fine automatic starting gate and al so the nice wide starting area th at ensued a fairer and safer start. The -O ld T imers were given 10 laps and things were finished by one o 'clock. Master B1ackie Lewis was in top form as he too k the lead in both motes and carried both to the checkered flag for wins. Gary Willison too k second in both motos, Bob Berdyck ha ndled things well and came up in first bo th times in the Junior Masters class. Dick Mosley made one of his too infreq uen t appearances and captured both seconds. Expert Ed Scheidler led the action for 10 laps to.claim a big win. Asker Larnkjear, almost always a sure winner, was good for a second placer. It was in the second moto that Bob De Miranda rea lly f?ot with it and moved right in to a first place. Asker Larnkjear, in tha t winning clique still, took another second place. .Amateur Gene Powell , desp ite lots of mud and a rough track, eased in with a beautiful first in both motos. Jack Hurley had things his way and took a good second pl ace win. Dale Calhoun followed Hurley in with second. The second moto's second place was earned by some fast maneuvering on the part of Dick Burley. Jack H urley was there to eros'sthe line in th ird. Novice Slim Spahn took the lead in Moto one and led things for awh ile, and then Dick Fettel slipped int o the lead and carried it all the wa y. Spahn di d all righ t too with second place. In moto two , once again it was Sp ahn ou t there in the lead , which he held for three laps, but Dick Doyle slipped h is Maico in to passing gear and took th e lead and the win. Dick Fette! was in for the second place award. • ~ AS LOW AS .
