Hurst, Green,' Bennett, replay at Sidewinders TT By Clay Lig ht CL ACKAMAS, OR, AUG. 20 Brad Hurst (Blomfeldt/Panther Frames/KRW/ Woodland H on/ O u t Front Nu m ber Plates/Triu mp h LTD ) co p ped a win on his 750 in th e Ex pe rt class after a come-fro m-beh ind rally to ta ke th e ch eckered flag and first-p lace p ayo ff, wh ile Randy G reen (America n H on/ Pa nt her Frames/N -D/ Bel-Ray/Simpson ) led a ll the wa y in Junior racin g. Another no-surp rise, Den n y Bemlett ( N -D/ Bel -R a y/ KR W./ O u t Front Number P la tes/He n ) did the same in a red -fla gged Novice main even t. The Novice main had Ben nett, who by the way has more than enough points to go J u ni or, pull away on la p one followed, and I mean distantly, by Gary Trull (Longview Kaw ) and Jeff H arsha (Med ford Yam). All three pulled away, but Ben n ett did the most ,da mage to the class, putting a gap between the d uo until a pile up occurred, resulting in a red -flagged event, which meant a restart. On the staggered restart, Bennett kept his usual position, but riders ' were . spaced 10 feet a part, giving Trull and H arsh a a better view of Ben n ett. Bennett motored away unmercifully on th e 12 rider field to go for a killing, again, ove r second place Trull, who staged a duel with Harsha, who ended u p in third. Fourth went to Da n Cordell (Yam), who settled into the spot after fighting off Ken Gray (Ya m ), who was fifth . Well now, with things looking much the same in Novice, wh y change things? Green took the holeshot honors to lea d Steve Karsten (H -D West) , Scott Miller (Trak Tak/Tri) an d Jeff Harnden (Out Front Number Plates/Hon), who entered turn one four abreast. Bu t after turn one, it was a whole other story. Green gave them a very distant view of himself, lea ving the racing up to Karsten and Miller, who were KO ing themselves silly over the ru n ner-up spot , which is as good as a wi n with a ru naway like Green. Susan Word (R&B H -D/ G rants Pass Suzuki/ Suz) and Mike Kearney (Yam) made up the bat tle that was erupting for fo urth . Wi th a la p to go, it was Green a nd Karsten , who were holding off Miller. Karsten kep t the handle on thin gs for second, Miller was third and H arnden fourth were ahead of Susan Wo rd. Experts ran 15 la ps a nd their race was by far the most exciting of the mains. J eff Campbell (E lite/Out Front Number Plates/Simpson/ H arry Lillie/ Boss Frames/Mountain Springwater/Yam ) stun ned the field with a devastating holeshot over Jeff Mc Daniel (York/ H on/ Si mpson/C-A) who, by the way, was sto ked after fin ishing 12th at Peoria 's National TT and was looking for a win. Word-thethird fo llowed beh in d, lead ing Charlie Barkma n (York Hon / Si m pso n / Oilzall) , who was Expert heat winner and wa s also h ungry for a win. Hurst started mid-pack a nd by the half, had come up to challenge Word successfully. Ca m pbell padded his lead as he pulled away, wh ile Hurst moved into second, fo llowe d b y Ba r k m a n , McDaniel and Word, who had experienced problems and dropped ' to fifth . With a lap to go, H urst made his move and surprised Campbell going down th e long down hill to snatch the lea d away and tak e the win. .T hird went to Ba rk ma n with McDaniel fou rt h an d Word fifth ; another National n u mber sweep! _ Result s NOV: 1.
