Roman Tops Red Bull Override Hard Enduro
T
he more things change the
more they stay the same.
This year's Red Bull Override
saw a ton of changes but still
the same winner. A new venue,
the Rally Ready Ranch in Austin,
Texas, December 3-5, hosted
a revamped two-day, two-hour
format with a chalk-full of chal-
lenging obstacles. The event
also coincided with the Jeep
Texas 4Fest, a large off-road
festival of trucks and four-wheel
enthusiasts. With both Red Bull
and Jeep headlining the two
events, for many it was their first
time witnessing hard enduro
competition.
Vertical climbs, waist-deep
water crossings, and man-made
enduro sections were just a few
of the challenges on this year's
course. Along with that, riders
were forced to race it in both di-
rections; forwards on day one and
backwards on day two. Climbs
became descents and drops be-
came steep, technical uphills.
Despite the long list of chang-
es to this year's running, Sherco
Factory Racing's Mario Roman
still came out on top. The two-
stroke ace won in 2020 and was
the heavy favorite again in '21.
He made easy work of the two-
day format and conquered the
muddy course that ran in both
directions.
Ryder LeBlond and Pat Smage
finished second and third,
respectively, beating out strong
contenders like Ryan Sipes and
Tayla Jones.
