(Left) Malcolm was
again fast at the
Southwick National
but an old nemesis
brought him back to
earth – crashing.
(Right) Malcolm
and his big brother
James (right) seem
to enjoy battling
each other on the
track.
" I know I Ican run with those
guys now, just have to
eliminate the mistakes and be
there every week.
ratio is better for me and I really
enjoy the big bike, I think it fits my
style and I don't think I'll ever go
back to a 250.
"Everyone always told me that I
rode a 250 like you're supposed
to ride a 450 – I would lug it and
ride it in a higher gear. So when
I switched, I guess I already had
the technique down."
After getting a taste of the 450
in outdoor competition, Stewart
is looking forward to giving it a go
in next year's Supercross series.
"I feel like I'm better at Supercross, I just had a lot of mistakes
this year," he says. "Maybe outdoor comes easier to me, but
I think I'm better at Supercross.
I just had some mistakes that
came up at the wrong time. I
think I would have had better finishes if I had ridden the 450 class
in Supercross, and I think the big
class is a better fit for me, so I'm
looking forward to staying with it
next year."
Stewart will need to shore up
his consistency, however, to be
"
a podium threat, but if he continues to ride like he did at Budds
Creek, that won't be a problem.
"For sure, Budds Creek was a
good race for me," Stewart says.
"I felt good and practice went
okay. In the first moto, I had a
tip-over but I fought my way back
up to ninth. In the second moto,
I got a good start and I was right
in there with my brother. Unfortunately he was passing guys a lot
easier than I was. I was trying to
move them out of the way, because that track is definitely thin.
And when I'm coming through,
everybody knows it."
