win that first one and get it out of
the way, it won't be so much in the
back of your mind about winning a
Grand National. You will have a feel
for it."
While Bryan Smith is still coming
to grips with his Kawasaki and the
shorter half miles, he sees progress. "We've got the Kawasaki
dialed in. We made a bunch of
changes to it for here. This is my
worst track as a rider," said Smith.
"It didn't show it tonight, but it is
one of the hardest to get a hold of
for the Kawasaki. I think it is going to be really good at a lot of the
other tracks. Pomona will be good
and I don't know about the one in
Washington, but I know it will be
good at all six of the miles."

Victory ride:
Baker enjoys his
first-career win.
On the podium Brad Baker was impressed with Jake Shoemaker finishing second. "Probably the only
surprise bigger than me winning
this is Jake finishing second," Baker said. It was certainly a big night
for the rookie, as he becomes the
first rookie to score points in 2013.
"To come out of here with a second in the main and a second in the
dash is unbelievable," Shoemaker
said. "It is one of the greatest feelings of my life. It is up there with
winning the Springfield Mile in the
fall two years ago. I couldn't have
ridden a more perfect race, in my
eyes. Winning would have been
awesome, but I put a good 25
laps in and got second. A lot of the
guys I look up to are racing here.
I started coming here when I was
younger. To be able to beat them
tonight was a great feeling."
