CN III VOICES P18 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR "The roar from the crowd was great, and even Rossi must have heard it!" Super Man I have a new found respect for Jorge Lorenzo - not only for his amazing feat of accomplishment at Assen that required focus and discipline most of us can never know, appreciate or fully understand, but even more so for his humble response to a reporter's statement of being a hero to which Lorenzo replied: "No, heroes are those who work hard just to reach the end of each month. I get paid to do these things." Thank you, Jorge. Scott Uhrmann Hackettstown, NJ Super Man II Jorge Lorenzo... what can I say about him? His get off in the wet was tires on the painted curbs... bad deal, but he should know better. Having won every race I started in the wet (but one when I was second on a 250cc vs. 500s), I am more than qualified to comment. Bummer was the injury, flying back and forth to get overhauled – ouch! But to see him on the grid at Assen…. I had two thoughts: total stupidity and good for you, Lorenzo. Double-edged sword. I figured he'd cruise about, but no… he got a great start from near the back and plowed his way forward, his body pumping natural and vital pain killers through his body as he headed for the front and ripped off some great lap times. I knew it was only a matter of time before he'd have to slow. The pain would no doubt come roaring in and he wouldn't be able to ride, let alone keep up the pace… yet he finished fifth. While up front Valentino Rossi not only caught the Hondas, but blew around them in a classic Assen move and motored off to a great win. Congrats, Rossi. The roar from the crowd was great, and even Rossi must have heard it! Lorenzo looked totally wiped out when he came in and no doubt in great pain... poor bugger. What a great day at Assen as two heroes left their marks there this weekend. Michael Green Livermore, CA Super Man III Congratulations to the Doctor and way to go Jorge. You have the heart of the champion you are! Woody Allison Via Facebook Roy Janson The year: 1974. Senior year of high school and I get to work at a motorcycle shop and get school credit (life doesn't get much better!) Roy Janson (Archives, Issue #26, July 2) is service manager. I remember a gruff man who knew everything about bikes. Talk motorcycles and he was as friendly and helpful as they come. He helped shape this lifelong motorcyclist long before he helped shape the entire motorcycle (and ATV) worlds. Dan Hirst Via the Internet The Ducati Blues It is hard to believe that the Ducati MotoGP bike is in such bad shape. How can it be possible after so many years? And how did Casey Stoner win a title on it? They can't even get into the top five regularly. They need some outside help, but on a positive note, Rossi won at Assen and Tom Sykes took pole and did the double at Imola. I hope Team Green takes the title.
