later Lloyd Brothers Motorsports/Ramspar Winery's Henry
Wiles passed both Jeffrey Carver
and Briar Bauman for ninth. Due
to a fall in his heat race, Wiles
had been forced to race his way
into the main through the semi
and had to overcome a back row
start.

rule that allows top Pro Singles riders from the previous year to enter
the Grand National Twins class as
a provisional. New York's Cody
Johncox was the only Pro Singles
rider to get into the National as he
out dueled Johnny Lewis and his
Latus Motors Racing Triumph in
their heat. Johncox wasn't as fortunate in his own class, but did make
the main through the Last Chance
Qualifier. Johncox rode back-toback main events for a total of 41
laps, notching a 13th-place finish in
the Pro Singles and a 14th in the
Grand National.
Jake Shoemaker had taken advantage of that program last year
when he was contending for the
Pro Singles title. "I made the main
event here last year as a provisional. I was running Pro Singles all
last year," said Shoemaker. "I had
a provisional license for the Expert
class. It was the second time I rode
my twin. I made the main event
through the heat race. I struggled
in the main event and I ended up
fading after about halfway. I got
16th, so I knew I could make the
main event."
While Brad Baker was relishing
the win, the future was his focus.
"Hopefully, I can keep the momentum going for Peoria next weekend
and especially for Elma, which is
the next Grand National and that's
where all the friends and family
will be. Maybe I can do it in front
of them," said Baker. "It just feels
amazing. I'm pretty stoked. I don't
know if it will set in until tomorrow.
