After settling for runner-up finishes at the previous two rounds,
Villopoto came out swinging at
RedBud. Obviously not intimidated by the gnarly RedBud track,
that took on some changes for
this year's race, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider posted an
average time in moto one that
was nearly two seconds a lap
faster than the next-best rider.
And he used that speed to get
through traffic after getting off to
a mediocre start.
Starting from just inside the
top-10, Villopoto was impressive
while moving up into first place in
just four laps, passing Dungey,
James Stewart, Trey Canard and
holeshotter Josh Grant in the
process.
Once in the lead, Villopoto
pulled away to a massive gap
over the field, finishing the race
with 27 seconds to spare over
Stewart.
Villopoto's second-moto start
was slightly better, although he
found himself trailing only Stewart by the end of lap two. Stewart
wasn't about to bow out quietly
as easily as he had in the first
