A LeMans start was eliminated at this year's event. There were no accidents at the start. Danks Racing's Jan Jolles (18) and Northridge Special's Ralph Johnston mixed it up. 14th Annual 24 Hours of Nelson Team Lyte wins grueling race By Larry Smith Race. Tragedy struck at the Ohio road race course when Team Heschimura's Dale Richey collided with Suzuki rider Joe Kenesky early in the race. Reportedly, Kenesky had to nearly stop his Trick Cycle Suzuki when a rider who had gone off th e track was waved back onto the track near the beginning of the carousel turn. Richey ran into the rear of Kenesky 's Suzuki at a high rate of speed and died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. Kenesky was hospitalized with serious injuries. On the third hour Team T.O. Racing took the lead with K&L Racing . . . second . . . .Team .Cowboy third, as . and ". . .. . .. .......... . .. the heavyweights moved to the front. The Eddie Lawson replica Kawasaki of MS&S Racing went down in the first of two falls, which eventually sent the winner of the first round, in Texas, home. The Barry Metson tuned and built Kawasaki GPzIIOO from T .O. Cycle Salvage ran undisturbed out front for 16 hours. Rider/mechariic Ralph White, Norm Murphy, Ralph Stokes, Steve Nelson and Barry Metson held a record-setting pace, but at IO A.M . on Sunday a broken transmission ended their assault.
