Between Na tiona ls, In the three Pro classes of the a ft er n o o n Rushmore Cycle Club's motocross, Perry Bicek (H on) scored a 1-2 moto tally Keith Kiyo ta, of K&K Racing, put on a display of riding a bil ity seldom . seen in club level racing, Formula One and Two were Kiyota's sh owcases. From a field of 24 entries, Keith , on his T Z250, worked . his way up from sixth p lace to third in th ree la ps. O nce in th ird pl ace , Kiyota had to cope with Rick Orlando, Dr . Da ve Kieffer and Bruce Sass, the favorites in this event. Rick Orlando 's domination was consta ntly ch allenged. Kiyo ta, Kieffer an d Sass tossed seco nd a ro u nd for seven la ps; it was anybody 's bet. Kiyo ta had worked sol idl y into second place and followed O rlando by inches through th e sweeper onto the straightawa y. Executing a perfect exa m p le o f slips treaming, Kiyo ta poured on the gas and di p ped under Orlando to win by a wheel. Kieffer, of Rough Stock Racin g, held th ird on O h is built KZIOO ; Bruce Sass was a tigh t fourth on his Ya maha th u mper. In Formula III, dependa ble TZ250 action was in terru p ted by Sass , aga in on the thum pe r. H is early lead wa s bested by Kiyo ta who led Orlando for th e bulk of th e race. O rlando kept u p his challenge until th e end and passed Kiyo ta for the checkered fla g. Sa ss took third. Kawasaki flexed its m uscle in O pen Superbike. When th e gree n fla g dro p ped, Ed Flemin g's G Pz750 was pursued by Norm Meyer's G Pz550, Ke iffer 's 1000 an d Orl a n do ' s RD3 50LC. Kieffer moved ahead of Meyer and Orlando . Mark Smith , mo u n ted o n the Wo od y's W heel W o r ks CB 750F , followed Kieffer arou nd O rlando. Smith co u ldn 't pass Flemi ng, and the crowd wa tched as the flag saw Kieffer, Flemin g , Smith and Orlando . Wa tch for th ese names all season. for the overall win in th e Open Pros , while Da ve Molder blasted a 2-1 day fo r th e w in in the 250s.1n th e 125s, Ben Norfolk roosted to a 1-2 score as well for his overall laurels. In the first moto of the I 25ccPros; Norfolk holeshot, and proceeded to pull away immediately. Behind, Mike Friend, Todd G ikling .. Billy Stork and Doug Wilson swapped positions, before Friend took firm control of secon d and left Gikling to hold off Stork. Soon, Stork slipped past, but by this time Norfolk and Friend had a tremendous lead. Then Stork, in his bid to stay ahade of Gikling, dropped his YZon the third lap , and remounted behind a hard -chargi n g Lee Vern Berry , who was n ow h o t on Gikling's fender. Stork immediately got by Berry, but it too k him two more laps before he could slip by Gikling. Once this was a cco m p lished, however, Norfolk and Friend were too far ahead for Stork to make a bid for the runnerup slot and Stork had to settle for third. . In round two, it was Stork wi th the h ol eshot and early lead , as Norfolk pulled into second a head of Doug Wilson, Curt H yde, Friend , Gikling , and Berry . Stork took total control of the moto, as . Norfolk rode a close, cautious, second . When the pack headed down from the top section and into the sweepin g ri ght turn, Friend blasted th ro ugh the berm an d off the track, then- hopped off his H onda to peer down at a flat rea r tire. Gikling, on the other hand, had his work cut out, working past H yde and then Wilson before confortably taking over the third slo t.
