The 250cc Expert s had a rather large tu rn out and it was Scott Podergois , rece ntly turned Pro Expert, leading into th e first corner just in fron t o f Dave Caballero from the back ro w. Mike Arth ur got around th e Dirt Works Yam aha the next time around wi th Doug Chandler moving through th e p ack to ta ke second behind Podergois and the n make the big pass to run off with the win. Doug's commen t, " I reall y like the wa y that CR250 works." Podergois held on for th e second over Caballero and Arthur. Bill y Gonzales led off the 360cc Novice main as he usually does with Mark Steinke in close tow, but on the third lap, he got into a triple wheel wobble down th e front straight and Steinke slipped by as Gonzales saved a sure-looking crash. Mark went on to win big on the Bob Scally/Dick Steinke/SK Bultaco wi th Gonzales . surviving over Mark Corsetti. Matt Dunstan led off the 500cc Novice show wi th Ron Musseder in tight. Dave Lewis got inside Iowan the Red Racer Maico out of Cycle Center and led for three laps 'until Jack Winans put on the pressure and made a pass attempt stick at the checkered. Rich Kroske got in to the first turn of th e 500cc Junior main once again on the EDCO XR500 Honda but couldn't hold off the hard charge of Joe Martins, despite some good racing action. Randy Holycross and the West Bay Cycle TT500 also made a pass stick, chasing Martins to no avail. Chris Paulson led off the 500cc Expert show, but was q uickly replaced by Chandler's H onda and that was the name of tha t tune with Chandler much the same over Paulson in the King-of-the-Bay ra ce. SEATTLE, WA, JULY 18 " N 0 way is Sco tt Moon getting away with that again!" insisted Joel Ittner. A long time contender in 750cc Production, this year the Tacoma Kawasaki GPz750 rid er has a good poin ts lead, and no inclination to lose th e 1982 crown to any u p pi ty 550s. T oday's round was at Seattle Internat io nal Rac ewa y and the raci n g was great. Moon 's KZ550, which als o wo n 600cc Production , led la p one of th e combined 750cc and Open Prod uction heat. Wayne Tanner's Auro ra Suzuk i GS ll 00 soo n passed and stayed in front for th e O pe n win. Moo n con tinued first in the 750cc class, while Ittner dogged h im , co n fide nt for eventua l victory. It tn er tri ed to outbrake Moon into the down h ill hairpin, bu t a more cautious big bore rider cut him off. T he mo torcycles of Greg Froberg, Jeff Morrow, and Chris Phillips flashed past, and Moon was far ahead. Ittner cu t thro ugh traffic up the back chute, bu t much to his chagr in , he still trailed Moon at the checkered flag. Ittner wasted no time in heat two. Moon bogged down in the crowded esses, and trailed by 100 yards on lap three. Ittner widened the gap, finally tak ing first overall fro m his ri val. Ahead of them, good for first overall, Wayne Tanner took another Open Production win. Second honors went to Jeff Morrow. You never know who'll win Open Gran Prix Single (a class which now accomodates " rnu ltis" up to 125cc). Ralph javins trashed hi s MEl Yarnah.a twin in practice, and Mike Condit left lots of oil in turn three when he crashed early in the race. Dan Haug beat Eldon Warren on the last lap, after Warren had led most of it ; both rode Yamaha 500s. Haug and Warren were nip and tuck again in heat two 'til Warren exited with an oil leak . Chris Myamoro (Patrice Pelton MTRl25 Honda) passed John Doyle's Ascot in the chicane, then filled in for MIA (missing in action) Warren, taking second overall. Aberdeen Suzuki 's Dale Zlock ran away from 35 other people in the 600cc Modified Production race, which was combined with 450cc Modified Production bikesvin two heats designed to drive lap scorers crazy. In the first race , Dave Roosevelt's Seca managed second ahead of Canadian Ken Breier's Abbotsford Kawasaki GPz. In heat two they raced fiercely, back and forth . On lap five Roosevelt zapped Breier with a spectacular inside pass toward the downhill, but Breier bit back in the chicane, winning second overall. Not too far behind, Wa yne Tanner won the 450cc Modified Productio n class, ahead of Larry Buc k. O ver $650 was up for grabs in the two money class es. Steve Dick and .Dal e Franklin too k home the biggest , slices in Superbike and Formula 2, respectively. The purse may be even larger a t S.I.R. on Augus t 29. • 33
