I OTs Olson, Frampton gas to firsts at Dunes By Bob Alloy VALENCIA, CA, AUG. I Since the Old Timers raced a t Indian Dunes last month, there have been a few changes on th e track, but one thing 's for su re - there's still p lenty of sand. There were 32 Old Timers o n the line a nd some in our new "sparkling" whi te jerseys. Master Black ie Lewis took the holeshot in both motos but" Mavin' Marv" Olson kept ta kin g away his leads. That resulted in two firsts for Olson and two seconds for Blackie. For junior Masters, Dick Frampton, our leader, was ready to turn that power on, and he did that. He won both motos with a first despite a midpack start in the second. Buzz Moeller found a good line through all that sand and gassed his Husky into second in mota one. Dan Sanchez held the lead for four laps in mota two and ended up with second. Expert Bob De Miranda must have added some powerful hot sauce to his gasoline because he was really hot when he took the checkered flag in first place in mota one and then again in mota two. Buzz Moeller started out in second place and that's just where he ended up in mota one. Taking second in mota two was none other than Asher Larnkjaer. Gabe Gutierrez has been winni ng most of the Amateur events and too k another first this time. In fact, h e wrapped up two firsts . Gutierrez was so good he was moved up to Expert at trophy presentation. Watch out. Da le Calhoon came across with some fast and aggressi ve ridi ng and took second in mota one. Da n Casson powered into the third spot. The second mota went like th is, B~b Klatt took a beautiful second by blasting away on his Maico 490 and Dan Casson took third. Novice Bob Perkins had a terrific first mota as he zoomed into the lead and six laps later was still out there in front for that first place win. .Bob Wells slipped his Yamaha into secon d and Dick Doyle followed Bob in with third. Bob Wells gassed it up a little more in the second mota and was the first to cross the checkered flag. Dick Doyle ·took second place, and Bob Perkins finished the mota in third. Myerscough, Turner, MacCracken top 82 Pro CMC day By Tom Corley ORANGE, CA, AUG. I The largest classes in most any event are usually. the amateu r races. However, today at Saddleback the Con tinental Mo tosports Clu b h ad t~e best of. t~e Pro crow d joi n them WIth 82 parucipan ts. Brian Myerscough do wned 27 othe rs ' to ta ke the profitable 125cc Pro class . P~blo lara leads Jamie Welty in Dunes (very) Mini action. wi n . Ron Turner defeated 30 other 250cc Pros for a good paycheck. and Eric MacCracken topped the 23 man 500cc Pro class for his fair share of the cash. Myerscough's Honda sta yed ahead of the 125cc Pro pack during first mota action with O range County Cycle's Doug Du bach ru nning second and Ro n Turner, not getting the best o f starts, in third. Du bac h had one of h is strongest per formances ever and shou ld be landing some wins here soon. Fina l mota ac tio n saw Myerscough lead again with Dubach in second 'a nd R ick Maki tak ing third. Maki is apparently racing a Suzuki again. Roost Factory rid er Rob Brown trailed Maki in fou rth. O verall it was Myerscough . Dubach an d Maki. All of the Mi n i races were combi n ed , a nd in the firs t moto, Thayne lito took the ho leshot on his Kawasaki as the top Int ermediate. Thayne's great start put him a he ad, but his chai n snap ped a nd h e took last. John Gersjes led the Intermed ia tes over G lenn Tucker. Roost Factory's Tim R u th erford wa s the on ly Expen rider a nd he was leading all till he lost a chain. In the final moto, lito gotit together with no chain problems.· Rutherford was in the lead till he wen t down, and lito led all of the Minis at that point. Gersjes was in second while Pat Beck ley was the third fastest In termediate till Glenn Tucker passed him o n the finish corner. As soon as Tucker passed Beckley, his bike started to bog and his throttle was stuck. Overall for the Mini Intermediates it wa s Gersjes with a 1-2 tally, lito taking second due to a poor first moto and Beckley taking third. . ..It was a disappointing day for Pa t Delligaua who was on h is way towards winning the 250cc Intermediate class. Pa t had a clean first moto win ahead o f jeff Almond and Sco tt ' Sla yton, Delliga u a was out to ta ke th e win in the final mota when his Honda 's swingarm broke and put him out of the race . Tim Crowder a nd Scott Slayton went on to wi n th e fina l round. Slayton's 3-2 tally ea rn ed him first place over Crowder a nd joe Melton. Results M INI J R: 1. Matt Ramley (Yam): 2.
